Morning all, I woke up feeling funny so not sure how today will go. Yet more tidying to do and badgering OH to go through his boxes of carp. He managed to sleep virtually all day yesterday so did nothing.
Don't know what to do for dinner eehhhLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -

The bedroom decorating saga continues....DH and DS are rebuilding the cupboard ( suitably ventilated) that now contains the combi boiler. Can't call it an airing cupboard any more as there is no hotwater tank! Then it will be asking the plasterer to call and we will be sleeping in the sitting room while the skimmed ceiling and walls dry. New bed, bedding curtains and carpet on the horizon after that.
Can anyone recommend a good bed that doesn't cost the earth? I am looking for a divan with drawers.
I am cowering in the kitchen diner keeping the puter and the breadmaker company. Washing is on the line and ironing beckons. Lemon drizzle cake has been requested for later but will have to go out and get lemons.........
Tea will be lamb shanks (thanks Lidl) and we will eat two between three of us. I cut a little off each shank for me and then OH and DS will eat the rest on the shank. Broccoli and cauliflower, carrots and peas. Not sure about potatoes yet-may do roast if I am making a cake and crumble for the chaps. Pudding will be apple crumble and custard.
Have a good day all.

Surprisingly warm and dry here, after yesterday being so cold and windy. Washing dried and waiting for ironing, bread rising, dinner prepped. (y/s Welsh lamb rump mmmmmmmm)
I managed to buy a load of really cheap cherries yesterday, but keep forgetting that there's only two of us so shall have to try and squeeze some in the very full freezers.
I feel quite jealous reading about those of you with children home from uni. this is the first summer for many that I won't have a returner - I've still got all the carp and boxes etc that have built up year on year tho'. and probably will have for years to come.
Aunty Bryn (or maybe at the moment that should be anti-Bryn) currently mowing lawn. At least we'll be able to find the dog now.
Am off to stone some cherries.
Happy Sunday0 -
Just a quickie from me - sunny spells here today good chance for some washing out on the line
Cleaning & tidying is the order of the day today; only 2 weeks until a party at our house for DD's birthday. DH is in the garden tidying that up (probably a harder job than the house :rotfl:)
Chicken dinner with the trimmings for dinner, maybe a pear crumble afterwards. We'll be eating out the freezer for the next fortnight so need to inventory and meal plan as well.
Must crack on!

Hi all,its not raining here-yay.We have been gardening all morning(well more like keeping the wilderness under control
)
Didnt check in yesterday, seem to have missed a 'lively' day ;)I no longer earn a wage, but have worked hard in the past, and still do now I'm at home 'retired'
I reckon that with cutting food bills by cooking from scratch, making my own clothes,no longer having fares to work or work clothes to buy, collections, making cards instead of buying, and all the other OS tips etc etc,we're not that much out of pocket(was not paid high wages though:p).I too make an odd bob occasionally with handmade cards, baby gifts, sewing and so on as I now have time to be crafty. My DH recognises that I work hard too and doesnt begrudge me much, though my needs and wants are pretty simple these days
Got the neighbours dog here for a couple of hours, but she wont settle really-think Leo wants her to go home-he likes a quiet life:rotfl:
Barbecuing stuff for tea, clouded over earlier but its sunny again now.All washing done.I made a ciabatta loaf yesterday from a Lid L mix, well half the pack made 2-very nice.
Have a good rest of the day x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Must read yesterday's thread. We were out yesterday so did not catch up on here. From the gist of it I feel a bit miffed on behalf
of wives etc.
I now have a small pension from work before I left to have twins years ago and have been at home ever since as childcare would have cost too much and we both wanted someone at home but have done admin work for DH, proof reading. selling books on amazon as well as looking after four DDs and DH.
Rosyred has just put things better than I could but I don't do the half of what she does - she puts me to shame.
Made lemon chicken, potato salad, asparagus, chanteray carrots
and sauteed cabbage with onion and apple for lunch and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
Noticed a huge swarm of bees in the back garden and DH and DD investigated and found a nest in the hedge. We contacted the local bee keeper's association and someone has just come out to remove the nest and bees to a new home. Fascinating to watch - from a safe distance of course. I told DH it was supposed to be lucky to attract a swarm of bees so he is looking pleased with himself.
Might nip down road to supermarket for YS items and then browse kitchen brochure for ideas for new kitchen cupboard doors and drawer fronts. Wonder if I can convince DH a new worktop and splashback and posh sink as well are all his idea.;)
Beekeeper has just left and will come back tonight to pick up the box with hopefully all the bees in it.

I tried to strip dye from my hair years ago and looked like a poorly canary till I had to try again. Also had short haircut till it grew out naturally. I am now silvery white and quite like it. Think it may be less aging than a bad dye job with a badger stripe because I could not get to hairdresser in time.

I go back to work tomorrow which im dreading as theyve trippled my work load:mad: and expect me to work miracles but hey ho got to keep on going. just gotta try not to get to stressed out. Am waiting to hear if I have an interview for a job I applied for.
I have just started A ww2 ration diet:eek: aswell to try and sort out my finances and maybe lose a bit of weight. the plan is to only buy what is rationed when I am allowed to buy it and suppliment it with what I have in the cupboards until that stuff runs out... then the fun will really start with only being able to eat rationed food however it just means padding things out with a bit more veg. Am actually looking forward to it. Just hope I can keep it up
Hope you all have/had a good day

Re yesterday's thread - Hope the poster realises that some of us have to manage without a man to support us. Being a widow it has been a struggle to bring up the kids and put them through uni, etc, I work 2 jobs to make our lives as comfortable as I can. This site is full of brave, inspirational and independent ladies (and men too). As for drink driving - don't get me started.
Just back from a lovely day in Edinburgh with DS2 and DD. DD struggled to get up this morning as she was out in Glasgow last night and didn't get in till nearly 3. I had a terrible night's sleep but thoroughly enjoyed the day, we only had a few light showers. Went to a car boot sale first thing (9am) and bought a couple of bits including a huge hammered metal candle stand for £2.
DD paid for our lunch and we had a stroll around some shops for a while, now home after a drive through torrential rain.
No OS what so ever today apart from putting the washing on the airers, just going to chill tonight and try to get to bed early.
Take care. XX0
