Hi all,
I just needed a rant about a 'friend' of mine.
She brought a gorgeous staffy puppy about 5 months ago. Has posted pictures of her all over facebook, her daughter who is 5, absolutely loves her.
Shes now pregnant, and has decided to get rid of the puppy. She's advertising on these facebook pages 'buy sell swap animal stuff'. It just angers me so much.
I asked her why she was getting rid of her and she just said she couldn't be bothered caring for the puppy aswell as her daughter and newborn. I felt like posting her a pack of condoms and asking her to consider her actions in the future.
I just don't understand how someone can do this. I know many people do. It angers me even more that it's a staffy, as once again this poor soul will end up in a dogs home with another 100 staffy's all in the same boat.
I would have some empathy if the dog had been in anyway aggressive with her child. I say 'some' as in most cases, its the child in the wrong!
How do you bunch feel about this? I haven't seen her in years, she's just on my facebook and I feel like deleting her. I just don't know how someone can treat a pet with such little thought

My sis' did the same thing with a bearded collie. To make matters worse she waxed lyrically about how well the dog was being looked after in its new home.
You only have to look at re-homing site to see how many staffies have been dumped by uncaring owners.I'm not that way reclined
Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!0 -
Sadly this poor dogs life will most likely consist of half a dozen homes via FB and then the pound where it will be put to sleep. I despise people like your 'friend'
Rant away, as an animal lover your very welcome here :)Personally i would send her a message explaining why i was removing her as a linked friend and then just delete her and block her. You dont need to hear the rubbish she will try and reply back to you with. Some people are just scumAnt. :cool:0 -

I get very annoyed at people picking up and ditching dogs like they're mere commodities, especially poor staffies, who always seem to get the raw deal.
They're so cute when they're awkward, helpless little puppies but once you realise they're bloody strong dogs with bags of energy, a desire to play (many a midnight game of tug-o-war has been played chez Jason) and are often 'needy' for affection, it's game over.
In my opinion, they're absolutely cracking family pets, including for kids, with whom staffies can usually play with no problems, assuming close supervision and a basic level of training. The strength and robustness of staffies leaves them more open to rough and tumble play with kids than other more delicate dogs who might get hurt, uptight and even agressive if the kids 'cross the line'.
They're only right for the right owners, though, i.e. people who realise that staffies are not always 100% perfectly behaved, and that they need affection, often lots of it.
I've no objection to anyone attempting to rehome a dog for legitimate reasons - illness, and so on - but seeking a new home for a dog that you just can't be bothered with is beyond the pale.
It's the way they are 'homed', too, through these awful Facebook pages. I don't think I'd home any dog via Facebook, especially a staffie. Hopefully she'll find a loving owner, but what's to say a random Facebooker isn't going to come along and use her for breeding, fighting, etc...0 -
Poor dog
. I wonder if she'd consider getting rid of her daughter instead?

Could you try to persuade her to at least try proper avenues before getting rid of the dog on FB?
It's bad enough she's getting rid of it but at least if it went to a rehoming centre of some sort it might have a better chance?Herman - MP for all!0 -
I despise people who treat animals like a throwaway thing. Especially those who get rid of an animal because they are pregnant.... did they plan on NEVER having kids in the animals lifespan ?
Sadly there will always be total idiots out there who do that kind of thing. Would have them all put down if it were up to me (the people, not animals)0 -
It is people like that that are the reason we need rescue centres. Very irresponsible.
Pets are not just throw away toys when you are bored of them.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -
I suggested she paid for the dog to go to a dog sitters for 4 - 6 months (she has plenty of cash!) while the babies newborn, but just obviously can't be bothered.
I'm deleting her in a mo!0 -
People like that really annoy me!!!! I have lots of animal groups on fb and the amount of people that do this is unbelievable! I have to bite my toungue, and think well if they can just get rid of a dog they don't desearve to have one in the 1st place! I think I have the naughtiest dog in the world that has caused me so many problems but I'd never get rid of him! He's probably cost me thousands, he jumps 6ft fences and stands on top of them like a cat! So we built him a kennel, he chewed through the fence! Dog warden cost when she's caught him, training costs (not that it helped). Leather sofas, dog beds, kitchen cuboards, skirting boards, doors. All that and more and I still love my dog and would never give up on him, he's 8 now. As you can probably tell he has serious seperaration problems.0

So when the baby is born and the novelty wears off because it is also too time consuming ,will she be advertising it on her facebook page?0
