Hi coinxoperated, yes read that your "friends" dog was a Staffy, but was also putting a tenner bet on MountainofDebts story relating to a Staffy too.
Sorry Sally - you'd be a tenner down as it wasn't a staffy
Personally - and this is a particular bug bear of mine as no rescue will look at us as we work and our present mutt isn't neutered -what I would like is for rescues to be prepared to look at each application on a case by case basis and if they relaxed the rules, for that household to be on 'probation' with the dog being visited every 3 months or so - or until the rescue felt that it was no longer needed.
That way non perfect households could prove themselves, reducing the number of dogs in rescues2014 Target;

Sadly what the OP has described is the definition of why so many staffie/ staffie x are in the pounds. I'm not going to say anymore as I'll get in a full blown rant :mad::mad:0

No, it's not just you OP. Sadly, this sort of thing is all too common.
Is there any talking to her regarding at least going through a reputable rescue?
Our first baby is due in a few months and my dogs and cats are going nowhere.
I am, however, fed up of with 'non-animal' people feeling they have the right to comment (more like lecture tbh) on how extremely careful I'm going to have to be. I've had dog and cats for years, do obedience & agility etc. with the dogs, also foster dogs. including those with behavioural 'issues' - I'm not a complete idiot.... grrrr.0 -
When I got pregnant years ago I can't tell you how many people assumed I would be getting rid of my two cats and I actually got criticised for keeping them!
I can't understand some people.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
i dont agree at all what this owner is doing..but a couple of points for people to suggest give up her baby seriously wise up i know animal lovers class their animals like their babies and love them just as much but seriously giving up a baby is an absurd thing to say.
Dogs are not babies .No one has sugested giving up the baby, it is a baby and millions of people have babies and still own dogs or cats
It isn't some exclusive club that means everything else that depends on you has to be removed from your everyday life
I find it just as absurd that some people think an animal they have owned from a pup can be discarded months or years down the line just because it no longer fits in with their chosen lifestyle.0 -
I work in childcare and I can quite confidently say 'parents' do give up there children as easy as dogs sometimes!!!
I just find it disgusting that someone get an animal that will leave for at least 7-10 years, and not have SOME forward planning. When my dog dies (I'm hoping he lives to about 15-16 so 13 more years!) I'll be 35. I want kids before I'm 30, and he will have to fit in with them, regardless of any 'issues' he may have!0
