Was this a good idea?
Some time earlier this year I saw ThE PERfEcT curtain pole for our bathroom. It was on eBay and very inexpensive and one of the best things I have ever bought on eBay. (never seen as good a curtain pole on there second hand) and its been knocking about ever since.
But we had a flimsy curtain pole over the stairs, this morning I whispered in dh's eat my plan and he did it immediately, the window over the stairs has that curtain pole on it until the bathroom is done later this year. When we need it for the bathroom we can put a nother solution ion the hall way. It keeps it safe, up on the wall, and means I have hung better, warmer curtains and not spent the money on a nother pole now.
Mean while we bought a coue of inexpensive poles to put up this evening to hang curtains in front of the front door and to replace the horrid plastic rail falling off the wall in the dining room.
This has been one of those circumstances where I struggle because I was planning to wait for the actual curtain poles I want, but they are really expensive, so buying an interim solution helps, buit I found it hard to accept. When we do not want them I can free cycle them, or maybe eBay them buyer collect?
Is it too much fussing, have I done the right thing? Hmm....realisation this is perfectionist angst..it doesn't matter does it? So long as they don't become Richard and we are not spending our savings on curtain poles?0 -
Thanks Goldiegirl in regards to the router, I think I may just take it down the recycling centre.
Had a productive day, 3 carrier bags went to cs (one had 4 pairs of shoes in it). 3 items put on freecycle, 2 of which were from my room of despair. A large bin liner has been filled and will be taken to cs next week.
Managed to put some items back in my spare room that went through scrutiny before being put back in there. I also managed to clear under my bed and there is only a small suitcase under there now (which I didn't check what if anything was inside ). I also ditched a load of toiletries that I'm positive were out of date.
Jojo hope you aren't feeling so delicate now.
Have a good weekend all x0 -
Bin bag of clothes, 2 pairs of shoes and a towel rail to the cs - they wouldn't take my books though so they are still in the car.
New laptop and new mobile in (old ones were on their last legs and needed to be replaced before something went wrong and I ended up having to make an emergency purchase). Need to make sure old ones don't end up as Richard as in keep them in case of emergency.
Feeling a bit like I am not making a dent in it at the moment - opened a drawer and found loads of clothes I had forgotten about but then couldn't bring myself to get rid of all, only some.
I seem to have a massive amount of clothes yet I cannot seem to thin it down. Still, every other week or so I take something to the cs so I must be reducing the total.
In laws over for dinner tomorrow so making beef bourginon and vegetable lasagne - will put the beef in the slow cooker and make the lasagne early on so I can crack on and clean the house as it needs a really good going over.0 -
Could you get MIL to help you pick out some clothes to chuck and then take them with them when they go? Now there's an idea, thank you!0

My mum is thinking about relocating to near my sister near Oxford. My sister and I are considering a first round of decluttering at mums house ( well the garage contents into a skip mainly!) in the New Year.
The irony of the fact that my own house is of greater need is not lost on me....
I'm leaving it to sis to talk to mum about this - and we will need to be tactful (me? tactful? that'll be a first!):jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
I finally found this thread! Hello to some familiar names... My toiletries hoarding has gradually been sorted, thanks to this thread, but books and 'stuff' related to my job as an adult education tutor are still an issue.
Amazon offer me free books (and other things) to review, but you are not allowed to dispose of them as part of the agreement. Which is tricky!
I've got to wean myself having stuff for the sake of it, just because it's available.
My son does tend to hang on to things too, which doesn't help.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... What does the Amazon agreement actually say (just being nosy; it is intriguing)? Do you have to hold on to them for a number of months? Or send them back at some point?
I imagine you get a lot of pleasure out of having them to review.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Well, I know realistically, nothing will happen, no major disaster if I run out of spaghetti hoops, lol!
I guess it's more a fear of having to be needy or a fear of having to rely on someone else for something ?
I wouldn't ever consciously let things I use every day completely run pout before going for some. I COULD wind down my stock of deodorant/shower gel for example but as far as I'd go would be buying a new one when the last one is still 1/4 full
I'm not consciously scared of letting foodstuffs run down in fact, I WISH they would! Lol!
That's me.
I have accepted stuff others don't use, but other than painkillers when in my daughter's house, hand on heart, I have never ever borrowed anything - apart from the mortgage and putting stuff on a credit card in dire emergencies.
Perhaps I am scared that I won't have the money to buy something when I need it, if I de-clutter too much.
I have a friend who has "borrowed" a lot of things - she has been unable to work for some years. Toiletries and toilet rolls in particular (She helped to reduce the toiletries stash considerably... ).
This habit does seem to have dropped off since she got a new flat that is cheaper to run, in fairness.
The only time this borrowing got to me is when she asked me if she could have my best pair of leather gloves as she had lost hers and had none. She had spotted them in my hallway.
I have other pairs, but this was my 'going out' pair.
I knew she would lose them, and I should have said, "No, but have this pair instead, that's my best pair."
I left it a long time before asking, but yes, she had lost them. On the plus side, she hasn't asked again.
Edit:-
Whitewing, Amazon say that "I am not allowed to dispose of them to any other person or entity "- Amazon never ask for stuff back, but they could do, in theory.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would drop Amazon an email and confirm with them that if they haven't asked for them back after 6 months, you are permitted to tear them in half along the spine and put them in newspaper and magazine recycling. They can't expect you to hold on to them forever. I know it is a bit of a waste, but they can always send you an alternative idea.
I am getting the house a bit more organised. We haven't had that many cards yet but those we have are now hung up nicely. A big chunk of stuff has gone for recycling. I hope this week we can get some more stuff out of the house prior to Xmas so that we can make some space before we get presents.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them.
