Replaced the eaten peanuts for Christmas Eve and seem to have eaten them again. Going to give up buying them until nearer the time I thinkg :D
:) I have bought chocolates for others for Xmas and sent them away already, to protect them from those late evening choco-lust moments when I CBA to go to the shop but I want sweeties.

:( ((Jo Jo)) very sorry to hear about your cat. :(

Your home seems to have been afflicted by a syndrome I have seen many times before in RL; Mass Appliance Death (or MAD).

It's usually self-limiting, having burned itself out once it has totalled your 3 most-used appliances. One pal lost a cooker, the washer and the fridge-freezer inside a fortnight, f'rinstance.

Sadly, MAD doesn't lend itself to infecting non-electrical appliances not does it tend to take off those things you really don't give a t0ss for and would be glad to have an excuse to be rid of. Just the really important stuff, that's MAD's remit.

I took another donation bag to the c.s. yesterday afternoon but the home acquired a pair of fleece footsie type slippers which are cosying up to my tootsies right now. There has been a net loss of volume, though, so I think I'm winning.

For those of you eating Xmas treats, can't you wrap them up with your hoarded wrapping paper. Then they become Xmas hoards and that requires a whole new decision to bust open.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Am having a sort out of paperwork which has been lying around for ages. Found a cheque for £27 (refund when we changed utility companies) which I had forgotten, all my clubcard vouchers and details of some cookery courses in the new year I am going to sign up for.

Put loads of paper in the recycling and a pile of paperwork upstairs to be filed which will be next job.

Am making mincemeat in the slow cooker and boy does it smell good! House smells really Christmas-y :D

OH took it upon himself to tidy up the garage yesterday so a. we can get to the chest freezer without tripping over things and b. we can put the static bike mount thingy in there with a bike to exercise on.

He wouldn't get rid of things like the hoover (we have 2 - one does wet and dry, the other has better suction) but there is a bag of what I thought were rags but which is actually rubbish to go to the dump and it is sooo much tidier in there.

Definite progress but he still thinks I am getting rid of things for the sake of it and when I mentioned putting like with like (we have painting things in the woodshed and garage) he said that would take too long and be too much work at this time - am working on it though ;)

Not likely to make it to the dump today but next weekend hopefully (or maybe Friday if I have time to get there before it closes) there will be a huge load of rubbish out of the house, garage and garden :T

Einsteins lesser known 2nd theory of relativity states that where the gravitational pull of the sugar/fat combo is greater than the sum of 'but I'll be reopening a parcel', divided by 'this would create another opportunity to reuse used wrapping paper' always = going to have to rebuy the chocolate.

Grr, can't find the stamps we bought at Costco before the price went up.

Have sorted a drawer in my desk for envelopes and stamps so when I do find them they will have a home.

Busy day - sorted our car insurance, made mincemeat, made big batch of cat food which is in the freezer, just about to make pastry fr mince pies (quality control you understand!) and dough for calzone for dinner.

At some point I might get to relax this weekend!
  • ok, actually got stuff out the house:j
    • one large broken storage bag full of stuff for landfill now in communal bin.
    • Large suitcase, curtains, large bag of hangers and pillows to c.s:j.
Felt an avalanche of panic just before leaving the house about the curtains - feelings of 'I should be eb*ying them' etc. Talked myself into remembering the stress and hassle I find selling stuff and what a good way it is to give to charity giving them decent stuff. They've gone.

Next task is for tomorrow to take an item I bought from Habitat in 1988 and have hung on to ever since as it 'is jolly useful and I'll never find another one' but I only used it for the first 2 years and have carted it around with me in various attics ever since.

I'm also getting rid of a small dressing table type mirror from the bedroom that I realised last night I never ever use but have always seen as 'ungettable riddable of' for some reason.

katep23 - can relate to your OH thinking of you 'getting rid of things for the sake of it as my DH sometimes says the same thing. But yes, I am getting rid of things for the sake of it... 'it' being the desire to own less stuff!
I want a simple uncomplicated life and that means owning less stuff - because the less I own the freer I feel mentally and emotionally. Too much stuff weighs me down. The over attachment to stuff weighs me down.

    Hi All

Jojo sorry for the loss of cat no. 2, I lost 2 of mine in September within 15 days of each other.

Not much dericharding here but I'm not bringing anything thing either! In fact I'm becoming quite fussy about what I want in the house. I always ask myself do I love it? If the answer is no then I don't buy it. I also find the same principle applies to things in my house, if I don't love it or it's not useful it gets put in the cs bag.

Whoever mentioned 'it's ok to have an empty space' thank you, thank you, thank you. Not only do certain places in my home look better they are also much easier to clean!

    Happy sunday all x

Jojo, I'm very sorry to hear about your cat too; hard to lose two in such quick succession.

I'm feeling a bit chastened; although there's definitely still a problem (like 5 spinning wheels in DS3's bedroom) you certainly can go too far, too fast... yesterday I needed a smart casual winter outfit in a hurry (family do in a 5* hotel that I hadn't originally been able to go to, then suddenly could) but to my horror, found I had de-hoarded virtually my entire winter wardrobe except "slopping around" stuff! I had half an hour to find something; ran into two CSs but all the decent stuff they had was a size too small. Ran into Phase Eight's sale, got cross with my reflection in all the nice drapey dresses that looked soooo refined & elegant on the hanger but somehow made me look like just like my Mum when on, and ended up buying something like a long, warm rugby shirt for £65. Not something Mum would be seen dead in, but acceptable. Thank heavens it was in the sale, is all I can say! So I was able to look the Eccentric Aunt in style. Or thereabouts. But at a price!

So let it be a warning to you - you may not have worn it for over a year, but you probably do still need to hang onto the odd posh option! There's something to be said for a little bit of redundancy after all.

I'd also somehow managed to re-Richard the conservatory curtains over the summer; I'd taken them down to wash & they seem to have gone off with a carload of stuff to India... new ones currently under construction.
