I sometimes have issues with my variofocals (OK I'm dozy at time) - read it as seven dwarves and then chuckled at the vision of seven dwarves decluttering singing Hi Ho as they went.;):o
Not exactly decluttering but the floordrobe on dd's room has been scooped up and sorted into four wash loads . One wash is on and am going to put another lot on once I have had a cuppa."This site is addictive!"

I just had a Doh! moment. I saved the ice-scraper from the Beko which had an icebox and needed defrosting. The new fridge doesn't have an icebox and is a frost-free model. I don't need an icescraper any more.
But it's a perfectly good icescraper. Someone else might be looking for just such a thing. Should I add it to the charity shop bag, do you think?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I have an old diary belonging to my Mum (who died over 20 years ago).
In it was all sorts of notations about my wedding (we got divorced years ago) and I cheerfully forget I ever had anything to do with him, but Mum was very ill at that time and died a few months later, so I keep it for that reason.
I feel very disloyal somehow to even think about throwing it out. Nothing in it means anything to me, it's all just rubbish about remembering to phone Auntie X to see if she's coming and stuff like that but it was pretty much the last thing Mum did.
Unlike you, the voice I hear is saying 'oh look, how nice that you kept that after all these years'. :rotfl:
I don't even know where it is, I never look at it. It's probably in a dusty box somewhere so it's daft really.
I'm with you. I feel terrible guilt even thinking about throwing away anything I've been given, especially presents. I'd honestly rather keep one extra box full of that particular clutter than feel awful about chucking it.
The voice I hear in my head is a very hurt one....:(0 -
:mad::mad::mad::mad: Meters!
A few years back there was a bit of an incident with a meter reader - I didn't want to make a fuss but I felt really, really uncomfortable and scared at the time and now I am not happy with meter readers coming to the house. So I try and arrange for someone to be in when the meter is read - not trying to be awkward, but not in my comfort zone.
Yet again the meter is due to be read, and yet again I have a meter reader coming instead of submitting something online. That's a bit irritating as so far I don't seem to be getting the option to submit online rather than have someone turn up (I know it's only every three months, but every three months I get irritated - and don't get me started on trying to arrange a named time and date!)
Apparently, because I complained when the meter reader (a strange man) was waving my scanties around and asking for details, I am classed as 'vulnerable' and if you are classed as vulnerable - wait for this - you have your meter read every 8£&$@ time! So because I am nervous with meter readers - I get more meter readers. And breathe.
So I am off to chip away at the mound of stuff that is in front of it, including four tyres. Fortunately, if I am in a foul mood (and I really am now) I get a huge boost of energy. Though it may not be enoughAnkh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0 -

No you should keep it as it will good as a general scraping tool. I use an old one to scrape the oven with when cleaning it or perhaps if you are decorating and need to scrape paint of a window?I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
sybil - I'm on a prepayment meter so can't put any figures in online and only get a meter reading once a year. But if the man comes and I'm not in he leaves a card for me to fill in. I then stick it to the front door and he collects it the next day with the reading I've filled in, so the company gets their readings and nobody comes into the house. There was also an option of phoning in the figures.
Sorry only read the last page - so sorry if it's not relevant or mentioned before by someone. I'm going back to catch up now. Or is it that they have to see the meter to check the figures for themselves?!0 -

Sybil, that's appalling. Vulnerable??? How did you find that out? Did you write and complain? I hate strange men coming into my home, I do feel vulnerable, after all just because someone is employed by a company, doesn't mean it feels natural to invite them into your home.
When I was in my last rented house the electrician came out to do their annual inspection, and the guy offered me his private number in case I wanted some extra service...nudge, nudeg, wink wink type of thing. Ugh. :mad:0 -
Tell me there is no point in keeping brand new unopened sim cards if they have a sign on the back that says' activate by May 2010?
Will they really not work now?
I have many.
:rotfl: that's given me the first giggle of the day then.....I think it's the utter disbelief that they won't work .
Well I am going into the cupboard under the stairs , the door is open ,I have taken two bags out and found another bag of cat food which is good...........but then thought I would go and have a coffee and look at this thread for a bit.
..... I know what I'm doing , I'm just putting it off , wasting time.
Right.....I'm doing it.Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.0 -
Calico, I was just thinking of you, I am trying to tackle the kitchen...again...I really don't understand why, after removing so much stuff, I still have so much stuff. Pop in every now and then to let us know how you are.
I have chucked some stuff I was storing for recycling, deciding that it was better for my mental health not to see it piling up. (Thanks Blossom)
