There is a lovely story about my great grand mother who was a very house proud Victorian woman who had married a hardworker and was no shirker herself.
She went to vist her DIL, and as was her wont just knocked and walked in. DIL was sitting on the floor pushing the U-bank under the furniture rather than moving the furniture and cleaning "properly". DIL did not have a mother to teacher her how to clean properly.
Well said great GM reporting this," I supposed it gives a different meaning to the phrase "bottoming it?"
It's a brand called Ewbank.... My Nanny was using hers up until the mid-1990s, it was a wooden one

Anyone else getting fed up with the dericharding? I feel like I am digging away at a mountain using only a teaspoon. I can see and feel the spaces loosening up as were, there's plenty of cupboards and drawers with some actual spare space in them now, or at least they don't explode out when you open the door! You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0

Hmmm, well, the DIY board have looked at my post there and obviously decided I am batty (an astute lot I guess) and no reply.0

I've cat flapped my fishies, so to speak. I decided mainly for their benefit as I could not afford to keep them any more in the style they should live in, but it was still hard to do. pets@home were wonderful and agreed to take them and put them up for adoption, well, the biggest goldfish was quite a draw and all the staff came to look. I've had her for 8 years so she was quite a size. So, cleaning out the tank to fleabay or Freeg3le.
I can relate Val, to the digging with a teaspoon, in fact it feels like a salt spoon size as no matter what I do, I still have stuff. I'm still battling with I spent good money on this and now I'm in essence, throwing it away. I think, I really must make the effort to sell it, but then it just hangs about. Might be worth doing a boot sale again, but the weather's so poor, that stuff hangs about even more!
It's a bit like moving house, you think this is never going to end, all this packing and sorting and cleaning, then suddenly it's clear.
I have too many cushions.
Blossom, I hope that happens to me the weight loss thing. At the moment I feel nothing is being lost. Totally impatient after just one week.
Jo-Jo, thinking of you, hope you feel well enough to post soon. xx
I'm really tired today so going to stop for now and drool over the Lake£and catalogue, without buying, with a nice cuppa.0 -
Still digging my way into DS's room, aided and abetted by two curious adult cats and a kitten that wants to play with everything. I've now got to the stage of shuffling things on the shelves around and mindful of prior permissions, I'm starting to fill up the CS and recycling bags. I'm allowed to throw out comics and magazines dated before 2011 for example, any book that says For Under 13 and story tapes etc. I am not allowed to throw out anything wargaming or trading card reated. I am also allowed to throw out anything to do with his French Standard Grade, lol! And I've given myself the permission to bin anything that's chewed, broken, filthy or I don't like the look of.
Why isn't he doing it himself? Well in all fairness he's done a lot of decluttering over the last few weeks but when it comes to the turbulence of shifting an entire room round, it's best to not have him sleeping/working/sitting at the pc in there at the same time. He'll be away till next Friday, it seemed too good an opportunity to miss.Val.0 -

Well finally today the local hospice charity shop collected my dining table, 3 x folding chairs and a clothers airer. I felt anxious when the knock at the door came but it feels good now it has all gone. Another step towards completely emptying that room.
I had tried to get DH to let them take a big old set of shelves, that are a complete white elephant, away but he couldn't agree, even though he never uses them and they are in the way. I just have to be patient and I do understand how difficult it is to let some things go.
I also put a Mary Berry book up on Amazon yesterday evening and it sold within half an hour , so posted that today:D. Haven't sold a book on there for years. Put 4 more up and have about 40 in a pile for a charity shop, but I think that may take a while to actually let go of them.
I have never heard of anyone routinely cleaning under appliances: they would be a complete chore to pull out and probably ruck up my vinyl flooring, so I certainly don't. I think Grey Queen is pretty impressive for having a proper spring clean annually.I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0 -
Hi, everyone, I'm just feeling pretty bleurgh at the moment. I don't like being ill, but I detest the way I always get huge side effects from the treatments more, as at least they should feel like they're making me better, not trying to do away with me!
Anyhow, I'm only up for about 6-8 hours a day at the moment (I'm in bed now, much to my disgust) so I've not really been doing much of anything. A plod round the supermarket on Thursday morning pretty much wiped me out.
Today I've managed two loads of washing, one of tumble drying, three things washed up by hand and I'm wrecked.
It is so much easier to get on with being ill when I have nothing more complicated to bother about than which packet meal to open. And not bothering with that.
I shall be reorganising a cupboard for storing a sharps bin (yellow and purple with BIOLOGICAL HAZARD written across it in big friendly letters, rather than DON'T PANIC), spill kit, aprons, masks, visors, gloves, swabs and syringes soon enough. But I have to vacuum and do the litter trays before the nurse comes first. And I just can't be arzed today.
(BTW, I clean behind/around appliances quite frequently. It's a good way to find extra cash if the back of the sofa lets you down. And cat toys. And socks.)I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Not really impressive at all, hun, I live in such a tiny place that all those things I do could be done in one morning, if I didn't have ME. As I do have it, I space them out over a month.
I just really don't like the ick-factor of things which can evolve under appliances if left for a long time.
What is impressive is when people are running a whole home, expecially against adverse situations like health problems, and manage it well. They're the ones to deserve respect.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hi everybody. I havent been around in ages, in this time I have completely cleared/cleaned the front room/kitchen/bathroom TWICE and everytime its gone back to its original state. Its a constant battle but I really really need to get it all done as I may possibly be swapping flats with someone and I cant even take pictures at the moment let alone let someone in!! Really sorry I havent been around, sometimes I find talking about my 'issues' makes me feel 100x worse but I do really appreciate the advice on here and the not feeling alone! I hope everyone is well. xxx
