Doesn't work that way I'm afraid, different banks, different procedures (plus Egg were bought out so not all records may have been moved over). If you don't believe them, send a £10 DSARSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

You only get a repayment of the PPI premiums plus the 8% simple interest. If your statements show you paid more PPI than that then send copies to the bankSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

I have recently received a letter from Barclaycard relating to my old Goldfish account, in short my claim has gone through and I’m getting money back from Goldfish.
They raised a complaint in my behalf but was still sent through claims forms, easy to fill out. If you google Barclaycard PPI that should help you. Wouldn’t let me post link to site.0
