Ebay Fraud: Told to return refund which will cost me

I made a claim against a seller that took my money but didnt send the goods. Eventually after a lot of hassling and sending a serious letter he sent me a refund. I notified ebay fraud that I won't be needing the refund. However 10 days later they still send me the money.

Now I have to pay it back as an international bank transfer which costs me £20. Why should I pay for their mistake?

Please advise.

Thanks

Why do you have to send it back as an international transfer? Can't you just resend it on paypal or refuse the transaction?

Who do you have to pay back? Ebay or the seller?

Frankly I would do nothing until contacted further by ebay or the seller.

If the seller is now out of pocket it serves him right for attempted fraud. Let him stew and struggle to get his money back, just like he made you do.

    refuse

you have more than a fair point that you should not be made to pay for peoples dishonesty an mistakes and as along as you have done all you could (which it appears you have) then screw em.

make it clear that you will only return the money an no loss to yourself. if they dont like it tough.

either that or just refuse the paypal payment

    How did you pay?
    How did he refund you?
Why does it have to be bank transfer?

Subtract your banking costs from the amount before you send it.

I got the refund from the seller after much persuasion and chasing up. I paid £197 by cheque (I won't be using cheque again) and he paid me back by cheque.

I told ebay to stop the claim as soon as I got the money from the seller however they still paid me by International Bank transfer into my account 10 days after I told them. I don't understand why they did so. A day after paying me they're asking me to return the money also using IBAN.

I contacted my bank who said I'd need to pay £20 and also go to a branch to do this.

As its not my fault why should I incur this cost. Its totally unfair. Also I received £105 because its £120 minus a £15 admin fee I think.

I've sent them an email about this but I haven't yet received a reply. I'm just worried they may say either transfer the money or close my ebay account!

Send the guy a cheque. Don't let ebay dictate unreasonable conditions to you just because they've ballsed up.

Why would it be an IBAN anyway? If he's not overseas, you wouldn't need to use IBAN to pay him back - just a bog standard free bank transfer.

I hope there's no inkling of advance fee fraud here... it would suck to pay him back then find you'd been refunded with a stolen cheque which was later cancelled.

    Something doesn't sound quite right.

  • I think the person got his money back from the seller, but before this happened put a claim in with ebay. He then got the funds back from the seller, and then ebay also paid out on his claim, and they ( eBay ) are now asking for it back, and want to be paid via IBAN. I would offer to write them a cheque instead of an IBAN transfer.
