    Hi everyone.

Some weeks ago I did the horrible deed of dropping a friend at the airport and picking them up on return. I waited close to the airport and they rang me when they were through customs whereupon I drove into the airport site pulled over and picked them up... I should think 45 seconds in total. I have received a letter from the Airport parking company APCOA demanding £100 for "picking up in a non stopping zone" They claim I have "breached the terms and conditions of use of the airport road" for which signs were clearly displayed. I am not sure how I was supposed to read these without stopping but hey whatever? Do they have a case or is this just my daily rip off I have come to expect in Britain 2012?
    Regards

They have no case at all, just IGNORE it please.

This is a strange thread to add to though seeing as we have loads of threads about APCOA and Airports, mainly Luton Airport like these:

...As we stand, they are now saying that I have a few days to pay-up the £80 fine or they will refer the case to a debt recovery agent.

I really want to dig my heels in on this; as I said before, I honestly and genuinly thought I had paid the full fee of £2.20 and think that is more than reasonable to assume this; my ticket showed I had paid £2.00, why would I pay £2 when a 1 hour stay would have been £1.00.

They also changed a part of the ticket showing the ‘time noticed’. It was scribbled out and written over making it unclear. I understand that parking tickets should be legible and totally clear?
    ...

    It is not a fine.

A debt recovery agent just sends letters = powerless, boring junk mail! They are not bailiffs, no one can send the boys round!

It is not a parking ticket. It's an unsolicited invoice you should have just IGNORED!

Anyway, let them send the letters; you will just get the same letters we all do, but they really are very easy to ignore - I have ignored these letters myself from a different PPC.

Have to say that Armtrac have on a very, very rare occasion tried a small claim to get a victim to pay up but it's highly unlikely you would be one of the 1% or less - and they would lose (I have seen them lose in threads on pepipoo forum). Certainly with the recent HMRC -v- VCS decision (see thread on it recently) any PPC looks on very very dodgy ground if trying Court now! But please don't worry and DO NOT PAY!

    HTH :)

KAJL- would you carry on a correspondence with a Nigerian e mail scammer? Or would you just press "delete"? So why are you bothering?

FYI, as the car park owner doesn't give a damn about the 20p, you CANNOT be taken to court because the parking company has no right to do it, as established by a recent Superior Court decision.

Collect a few of their asinine letters, and then go see your solicitor friend about suing them for harassment. It is easy, I did it.

The car park owner is responsable for the actions of their agents, in this case the parking company, though need to make sure they know this. Then go for the car park owners, the aim is not to try and make money out this, is to make the owners realise that this is no way to manage a car park, with the ultimate aim of getting the ppc removed by the owners.

Shame she didn't jointly sue the marina as well as the PPC in the first place. It would have saved her a second trip to the court.
  • Can anyone confirm that Motorway services are unable to enforce a parking fine issued, from the forum comments it looks as though its un-enforceable but was wondering if anyone can actually confirm this?

Yes indeed. Their scams are no more official than any of the others. If you have been sent one just ignore it. For safety reasons motorway services should not have restrictions imposed anyway.
