why bother closing your esaver 4 account?

why ask for the interest to be transferred?

i always leave my old accounts open so any interest due accumulates. then i do the transfers myself - thats what online banking lets you do - its just so easy

Well for a start, it improves the return on your investment. ... With the interest paid out on closure you can earn further interest on it between now and the date it would otherwise be credited to the old account.

There may be tax implications (good or bad) if you get interest paid now which would otherwise be paid in the next tax year.

If you die then all the extra open accounts may cause your executors/heirs extra hassle, and if they are using professionals/solicitors then dealing with the few pennies in the old accounts may cost more in additional fees than they are worth.

Tidiness is next to cleanliness. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

    Cheers,

    Old Vicar.

Anyone having problems with their email being accepted should just add +esaver5 or something to their email. Any decent email provider should know how to deal with that.

    e.g. zerog@gmail.com ==> zerog+esaver5@gmail.com

The Apply online bar on the side uses doubleclick to track you, which is why anyone sensible wouldn't be able to see it unless they explicitly allow it.

My elderly mom would like to open an esaver issue 5 but doesn't have a computer so will need to operate it by 'phone. We thought it would be easier setting up online for her, and then she can she can operate via 'phone. However, I've only ever used Santander accounts via online and so don't know what their 'phone operation service is like. If it's complicated or "hard work" (it is Santander we're talking about!), then I wondered if it's better giving it a miss and finding another account for her that she can operate herself without too much difficulty. Can anyone tell me, please, if making withdrawals using their 'phone service is ok?

Correction: you want her to have the account. She didn't find it on her own.

CORRECTION: How impertinent of you to make such an assumption!!!

I don't care what account she opens, I simply search for accounts that she can operate herself and tell her about them, SHE makes her own decision. Maybe YOU would DICTATE to someone else what to do, but I do NOT. I simply research and pass on the information. If you haven't got any useful advice about Santander's 'phone service (which is what my post was about!), KEEP YOUR OPINION TO YOURSELF, mate!

Guess your ego's too big to make an apology for what I found to be such an offensive post, isn't it?

Yeah, too right!! He's proved that by some earlier posts made. He's also proved my point about his ego as well, he's still online some forty minutes after making the offensive post, so would be aware he's had a reply, and has not had the decency to apologise.

SORRY - I got the wrong end of the stick.

Also sorry for not being quicker to apologise: In the past 40 mins or whatever my PC has been on but I have not been looking at it.

Turning to the issue of the suitability of the account for your mom, you are clearly aware of the mixed reviews of Santander's quality of service, whether by telephone or otherwise. I'm afraid I have no experience of this account, but if I may venture a suggestion in an effort to be helpful, I think I would want to check whether or not statements could be obtained by the phone service, or if they are only available to print out online.
