Also couldn't apply through online banking. I just completed the online application form and filled in my details. To my surprise it was opened within the hour and appeared in my online banking.

One caveat, it's not automatically registered for gross interest even though my ESaver Issue 4 is. Setting can be changed instantly online though :D

Thumbs up to Santander efficiency for once! :T

How can these settings be changed online instantly (assuming you mean interest status)?

Hopefully that will sort it for emeraldbugle & happy days.

Although I got a feeling it may not be as simple as that for emeraldbugle, if you leave the card number box empty and press the 'proceed' button during the application process it does not let you, coming up with an error message saying some fields are not valid with the card bit highlighted to be corrected before you can proceed further with your online application.

I know it sounds strange but thats what I experienced with an online e-Saver issue 5 application I was helping with online. In the end the only way to complete that application was over the phone (which was easy and straight forward to do, free call and call answered promptly).

You're right about this. The eSaver 5 application wouldn't let me proceed without a card number. The eSaver 4 which I also opened online earlier this year didn't have that and I never had a card with it. I do have a card though which they sent me when I opened an ISA and it happily accepted that one. That card is linked to the ISA, but I did get the impression that with the eSaver it can only be used for checking the balance rather than making withdrawals.

    1. Click on the "My Details and Settings" tab at the top.
    2. Click on the "Change Personal Details" tab on the left.
    3. Click "Change tax status" hyperlink option in the middle.

Well, I sent a secure message for my esaver 4 to be closed and interest moved into my esaver 5 two days ago and it's still not been done.

Maybe you want to give them a call on the free phone number posted in this thread.

You must have been the unlucky one who they forgot to do.

My old accounts were both closed and balance transfered to new eSaver 5 within 24hrs (as outlined in post #71).

I had been away from Santander banking for a while because of the problems they were having and many unsatisfied customers, but must admit the recent account opening procedure and closing of old accounts has all gone very well (definitely the easiest account closure process that Ive come across, well for me anyway), so credit where its due.

Decided to apply for one of these, (new customer to Santander) filled it all in this morning – fairly straightforward apart from it not accepting my email address?? So had to use my work email which wasn’t ideal.

Anyway I was wondering what is the usual timescale for getting this accepted and set up? I got my confirmation code after the application and it said 3 business days, however I had expected an email straight away to confirm my application etc...?

Can anyone confirm the usual process?

If I apply for a new account (not new customer so may be different) the email is sometimes really quick and other times not. For example I sometimes see the account online (you won't of course being new) before the email. Not sure if that helps.

why bother closing your esaver 4 account?

why ask for the interest to be transferred?

i always leave my old accounts open so any interest due accumulates. then i do the transfers myself - thats what online banking lets you do - its just so easy
