The dealer I bought it from did not want to know. They are no longer about now anyway.

A different main dealer had it for a day which was when then concluded that the ECU needed an update. I am assuming that the dealer did plug something into it which determined that it needed updating.

are you saying you are driving it around with the light on then?
you know it means theres an emissions issue with your car ?
it could kill the !!!!! if linked to fuel or wash the walls of your bores if overfuelling
most repair garages have kit to do these cars as i have said ,im a retailer but even i carry this gear for vauxhalls

I am driving it around with the light on. The dealer I bought it from said it will be ok. I put into writing my complaint and asked for a repair or the car to be replaced. They didn't want to know. It was a case of live with it.

It passed the MOT last year so I assume the emissions were ok then. I've had the car a few years now and have had to live with it as nobody can fathom out what is actually causing the light to stay on.

The car starts ok, fuel economy is good and it has never let me down (apart from the bl**dy light)

!!!!!!!!= cat by the way nothing rude

if it passed the emissions then why not do what most other vauxhall owners do then and stick some black tape over the bulb
seriously its a common vaux problem
old corsas used to do it on the overun all the time they were a nightmare

it does sound like egr by the way seeing as it passed the mot they run better stuck open anyway but the time will come when you will get bad starting and no they cant be blanked off

I might just do that. Strange thing is that this is my 4th Vauxhall and the only one I've ever had this problem with.

Just a thought, can't think of anything else other than that, lambda sensors and egr that could cause the issue. It's typical Vauxhall though :)
