Sorry I cropped out most of your post. Have to say everything you just wrote was so blooming lovely!
I agree with all of it especially no two are the same. When I did my course in March they said to me their motto is "When you have met one child with Autism...You have met one child with Autism" And I do not think people understand unless they have dealt with it. Also agree with the last bit, even for me as a parent it is so challenging but when he achieves something it's the best thing in the world. Admittedly we have less problems with him that a severely Autistic child but it's problems for us never the less. People just don't understand the issues that surround ASD. Yesterday I took him to B&Q to look at some paint for his room as thats the one that has the leak, when we got in there he was so overwhelmed, the bright lights and all colours even smells and sounds, he freaked out (both good and bad way) and I had to resort to basic language, short simple commands etc but this one lady just stopped gobsmacked and stared at us both. I just returned the stare and she soon picked her gormless face up and walked off! It did make me mad but at the same time I can understand as people can't exactly see his disability, but it just highlights the lack of knowledge.
Anyway sorry for taking up the space people!

    Hope CS gets better soon.
Also Happy Birthday to WhoopsieQueen

I often get stared at when my legs are bad and I have to use my stick or crutches..
I have a back condition which means I often have to have either a neck collar/sling or use of a stick..

As i'm only 33 I get some funny looks, even people who know me say 'what you done' when they know it won't get better..

Some just don't understand disibility generally, it's poor knowledge, they think you're putting it on or when I say my backs gone I get 'oh I had backache once'...yeah ok...

I'm really lucky I have a great family, If someone stares at me I stare back and ask what's the matter...
Even my daughters have stood up for me in the past...

Stare back don't get mad get even..:)

    Evening:D

A preacher said "anyone with who needs help and who wants to be prayed over come forward to the alter".

A man came forward and said, "I need you to pray for my hearing".

The preacher held the mans head and prayed and prayer with the whole congregation joining in.

After a few minutes the preacher asked "how is your hearing now?"

Man said "I don't know its not till next week"

I think the most eye opening thing I took away from the course was how uncomfortable they must feel in 'normal' situations.
We had to do an exercise were we were paired up with our neighbour and had to hold their hand, then after 5 mins had to hold both hands, after 5 more mins had to stare into each others eyes. I must admit I now understand a little more of why they can have meltdowns if that is how some situations make them feel. :(
We were shown so many different was to help them adapt to changes. We got given so much info to take away and I managed to get a DVDrom designed for teachers to help us impliment strategies to help them cope with changes to our programme. I haven't had a chance to go through it yet but hope it may be of some use.

We're having a meeting about the course on Monday because we felt that we could do with a few more sessions with the lady who took it as we felt we didn't get enough detail but then again I don't think we could ever get enough info because of the wide spectrum and difficulties each entails.

I had a good session with one of the boys today, his mum said he'd had a bad day at school so we just sat drawing then playing with some foam modelling stuff that air hardens, he was more interested in the modelling stuff so he played with that while I finished the picture off. He managed to sit there for 10 mins before having to move :T, which is great for him as it's been 6 - 7 mins tops lately but think his bad day took a lot out of him.
He can't wait until next session because he knows we're baking buns and it's one of his favourite things to do.

I think the course has helped a lot more than I thought because I now understand more of why he does things the way he does and think everyone should go to one of these to understand a little of what their life is like

Sorry waffled on a bit there, it's now bedtime so

    Goodnight all :)
