not a good experience and still on going
had these people fit a boiler onto my existing system on the 11th may. they very kindly fitted 3 extra thermostats, 2 of which i discovered were leaking after the fitters had left. i was told i 'had to' sign a 14 day waiver ? at end of fit. was given wrong info on programmer, its virtually on/off so ive discovered.
anyway ive called the co. 7 times as leaking therms. mean refilling system 1/2 times a day, restart every 2/3 days. they've called me back once (i succumbed and swore) sent fitter round, he said all fixed went for a poke around after he left, 1 therms. was turned off? turned it back on , now have bowl under it that needs emptying twice a day.
the staff are lovely to talk to, very sympathetic etc but promise the earth? (normal service) and do nothing.
this is my experience, oh and the finances, the monthly sum goes up by 3% per year after year 3. and the new boiler at year 10 means you have to restart the agreement
i'll let you know if it gets any better
ah 1 thing i forgot contract includes all parts (prev boiler got to £450 before being yanked of wall) but if they arent going to turn up, a bit by the by i suppose

so a crap service & a crap boiler & you are stuck with both for at least 10 yrs, always remember if something seems to good to be true it normally is,

get them back to fix the leaks & if you have had to re-fill that often then the inhibitor needs topping up as well

Realise this is an old thread, but thought I would add my experience of boiler finance. I got the usual extortionate quote from British Gas and then taking a punt typed boiler finance Essex into google. This led me to boilernowpaylater.co.uk (1st Call Services). The quote I received from these guys was over £2K cheaper than BG. The quote from BG was also for a poor quality boiler with a 1 year warranty. 1st Call fitted me a top of the range Worcester Bosch boiler with a 7 year warranty, so no need to have boiler cover for 7 years. I’m sure there must be other independent companies around the country that can also offer a similar deal.

The 14 day waiver would be a cooling off period after signing the forms before they would start work.

So, why not pay the installation cost off and walk away? You would still have the 5 year Manufacturer's warranty on the boiler and would just need to pay for annual servicing .......

    Also -

If you search the forums for 'A Shade Greener' they have an official representative that responds to posts on the forums - you could contact them direct.

    Hi Lindaarch,

I apologise that your experience with us has not been up-to scratch, this is not the norm. We are committed to the boilers care for the term of the agreement and any issues should be resolved ASAP.

The need to refill and reset your boiler will be caused by a fall in pressure. For a short period after a new boiler is installed there can be issues with the water pressure dropping, this not out of the ordinary and will only happen for a short time.

Again I apologise for what has happened. Please can you email me with all the issues you have experienced, both resolved and outstanding, so that it may be taken to management. mykel.hedge@ashadegreener.co.uk

Run that one past me again! The need to refill and reset the boiler is indeed caused by a fall in pressure which in turn is caused by the leaking thermostats. If the poster is collecting and disposing of a couple of bowls of water per day, that much needs putting back into the system to keep the pressure up. This is very much out of the ordinary and the fact that you can't spot that doesn't say much about your understanding of the systems you sell.

I understand how a leak works and I did not pretend it was anything other than a leak. Hence why I asked the poster to contact me.

The part of my reply you have identified was for the benefit of anyone with a new system that experiences a drop in pressure. My point was that a fall in pressure is not uncommon for new systems and it does not mean there is a leak, which is uncommon. Unfortunately in this case the drop in pressure will be caused by the leak and it needs to be resolved if it has not been so already. It is important that the poster contacted me so this can be arranged.

  • Hi Widge,

Have you seen renewable planet's deals?

They have boilers on finance which may be the solution to the expensive boiler. They also have other deals on.

I've just had British Gas come in to do a quote and, as expected, its expensive.

The problem is, getting a boiler installed in itself is quite expensive bulk cost and the benefit of BG is I can spread cost. I understand that this will always be more expensive than sourcing my own help in the longer term, but I need options in case I am unable to save enough for installation in time for winter. I will be requiring heat this year!

So, I've had a British Gas offer of some money over X amount of Y months, who else do you know does this sort of deal? I'm in the Manchester area so it needs to be local to that.

Out of curiousity, how much is installation in general, if there is any experience here? Its a Combi for Combi deal (Ferroli 102 -> Worcester 28i coming in), but apparently the boiler needs lowering, which may require brickwork. I don't think that is them trying to blag the job up because the feller who fit the boiler in the first place, didn't leave enough clearance between the top of door frame and boiler where the thing is housed. Moron.

I can get a boiler for a decent price, its the installation I am fearing the most.

    Thanks for your help,
