Boiler - best finance deal

Options
I've just had British Gas come in to do a quote and, as expected, its expensive.

The problem is, getting a boiler installed in itself is quite expensive bulk cost and the benefit of BG is I can spread cost. I understand that this will always be more expensive than sourcing my own help in the longer term, but I need options in case I am unable to save enough for installation in time for winter. I will be requiring heat this year!

So, I've had a British Gas offer of some money over X amount of Y months, who else do you know does this sort of deal? I'm in the Manchester area so it needs to be local to that.

Out of curiousity, how much is installation in general, if there is any experience here? Its a Combi for Combi deal (Ferroli 102 -> Worcester 28i coming in), but apparently the boiler needs lowering, which may require brickwork. I don't think that is them trying to blag the job up because the feller who fit the boiler in the first place, didn't leave enough clearance between the top of door frame and boiler where the thing is housed. Moron.

I can get a boiler for a decent price, its the installation I am fearing the most.

Thanks for your help,

Get a loan, get a local Gas fitter to quote and it will still be loads cheaper than British Gas.

Good point, I forgot about that. Thanks!
I'm up for anyone else who does this deal though, as a benchmark!
  • My Dad works in Nottingham and charges £2,500 upwards (including parts), so I would guess Manchester would be about the same. Out of interest, how much did BG quote?

As above, get a local fitter and a bank loan if need be.

I can recommend this firm in Poynton: http://www.cheshireheat.co.uk/site/latest/59-7-year-worcester-warranty.html, who have done work for myself, my parents and grandparents. Currently offering a seven year manufacturers warranty on certain Worcester boilers.

    £2400.

The boiler was £997 and I can get the very same one for £679. If I can get someone to do it all in (with my parts) for about £1250, then I'd be happy, and as mentioned, I hadn't considered the loan aspect.

Just out of interest...BG quoted you for a WB Junior 28 but where have you managed to source one for £679 inc. VAT (not that we would ever supply and fit one;)). Make sure you find a RGI who is is willing to fit using materials supplied by you before you buy any gear as it can get a bit 'messy'.

  • Thanks everyone. Apologies for vanishing. You know what happened in the end?

Got a big fat bonus from work and bought me a Vaillant for £750, got it fitted.

RE: question about where I got a boiler that cheap, in the procurement industry so I deal directly and have relationships with a lot of people like Worcester and Vaillant!

Given that OP was asking nearly a year ago perhaps they've got it sorted by now as per their post of 05/09/12?

BTW Everlasting boilers is a marketing gimmick. When you look at the through life costs over the 14 year term contract it doesn't stand up to scrutiny IMO.
