Hi require 2 new rear brake pads & been informed disc is slightly pitted but not serious. Would it be advisable to change the disc at the same time?

Thx

I wouldn't yet for slight pitting.

No. Pitting may slightly increase pad wear but the pads are the (relatively) cheap, sacrificial, part of the system.

If they're not badly worn or warped then, if anything, pitting will give you better brakes once they bed in cos the pads have more to bite into ;)

How flush do you feel? If it is the rear brakes then they will be pitted again in 6 months as most of the braking is done by the front wheels.

I would only do the discs on the back when I was forced too. If the fronts were pitted you would need to ask why that has happened and sort out any underlying problem but I would have them done a lot faster than the back ones.

I'd only change the pads, the pitting may not have been caused by any faults but just the weather, such as salt on the road, so until they're much worse leave them.

I had them all replaced about 18 months with kwik fit and they will replace pads and discs free of charge while I own the car.

I bet you they won't if you go and try to get it done!

They'll find some sort of exclusion clause!

If they do you'll be amazed how many sets of free pads their disks suddenly last compared to the ones they can charge for ;)

Cheers guys.................................I was just worried that the 'slightly pitted' disc would cause the new pad to wear quicker

Isn't that kwikfit deal just for labour? I.E you still have to buy their discs and pads but they will swallow the 20-30 mins labour to fit them, but will easily make it back on the parts cost?
