Seems to have been unavailable since around midday.
  • Attempts to get into my TalkTalk email fail more frequently than they succeed. I'm searching for a painless way to change my email supplier without having to remember all those organisations (not necessarily in my address book) that need to know it, for example HMRC and other gov.uk sites. Anyone got any suggestions?

Have to agree with singingshutters on this one, "I can access tiscali/talk talk mail" would be a more attention grabbing title for me!

I believe you can redirect email using something called POP3 if it's supported by TT - hotmail offer this service although I haven't used it myself. Alternatively you could use outlook to manage your emails.

I've been using my TT mail again for the last couple of months while changing ISP and have to say the spam filter is terrible compared to any of my other email providers - they will not be missed!

Tiscali was fine until TT took it over.

No easy way. But what you can do is set up a new address on something like gmail, which is not ISP specific, then put a forwarding rule on your account to be cancelled (assuming it has webmail), BEFORE you cancel it. It seems to vary from one provider to another, but I've heard people say their email is still being forwarded over a year after the contract ended. Remember you won't be able to get into the account to send from it or change the rules after you've terminated it.
Even better, register your own domain and get hosting for that with full email facilities - that will go with you regardless of your connectivity supplier and you can move it to another hosting service should one let you down.

I agree. You are far better using a web-based email, than an ISP email.

The differences are critical. You have an ISP based email, You have to use a specific ISP, and you have to download the emails on a specific machine. If your machine has a disaster, you lose all your emails. If you switch isp, you lose all your emails. Basically, you have no options.

On a web based email, such as Hotmail, Yahoo mail, Gmail, you can read your email fro many PC on the planet now or in the future. You never lose your emails, because they never download to your machine., You can switch ISP's as many time s as you like, its doesnt affect it.

You can even do stuff like send important documents to yourself as attachments, and the dcouments then stay up on you web mail, a securely stored copy accessible whenever you want to recover it, from any PC with an internet connection anywhere in the world at any time.

I use Hotmail for non important stuff, and Hushmail for personal/important, because its extremely secure.

There is no good reason to stick with an ISP's email system.

99% of web based mails are free.

    HOTMAIL
    GMAIL
    Yahoo mail
    Hushmail - secure mail
