    A backup and factory restore taking 20 minutes will cure the speed completely if you want to save some money -presumably you'll want to do this anyway if you're selling it, followed by a ccleaner wipe free space to make sure your data can't be recovered.

    Is your only copy of photo's on the external drive - they fail sometimes, keep 2 copies on different media at least if they're important

    If you can wait for it to turn up, you can get a significant percentage off Dells (and others) by using codes
