LG LCD Tv

Hi

This is a long shot but we bought our tv 3 years ago and now the screen has started to go (pure white screen, with sound)

I know we got it ages ago but surely a tv should last longer than this?

Any advice would be great, Thanks

Well, under the SOGA you have 6 years to ask for a repair, replace or refund (stores choice).
However, after the 6 months stage you have to prove there was a fault e.g. Need to pay for your own engineers report.

How much did you pay for it?
As you have used it for three years, if they did give a refund this is likely to be pro rata of the amount you paid e.g. Reasonable to suggest an LG tv to last 5 years, therefore you would receive 2/5 of the tv.

I would contact the head office of the firm you bought it from and see if they are willing to make any goodwill gesture, as this would probably get the best result.

I wouldnt approach currys direct . I'd communicate directly with LG UK HQ.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I wouldn't bother doing that, LG have no liability and they know it. You need to contact Curry's, as the retailer your contract is with them and they are the ones liable to you under SOGA. They will also ask you to prove the fault is inherent, they may offer to send an engineer, but will charge you for it, you would get this back if the fault is inherent or a well known fault.
You should google the fault with the model number of the tv to see if it is a well known problem, if there are lots of hits on this you stand a fair chance of a remedy, if you can complain hard enough. If there are few cases your chances are slimmer, you need to do the homework first so you have some facts to hand.

    Hi Jrspam,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

I'm sorry that something has gone wrong with your product. So we can get you up and running as soon as possible we need to understand more about the problem you've had. If you can provide us with an independent engineer's report (Manufacturers websites are a good place to start, as they typically list authorised service agents) together with the purchase details, we can review the details and work out what needs to be done.

If you can make sure the engineer's report states the nature of the fault, its probable cause, any fixes that would be needed, together with a breakdown of the parts and labour costs. If the product cannot be fixed the report should include this as well.
Once you have the report, please send it to:

    Currys
    Customer Contact Centre
    PO Box 1684
    Sheffield
    S2 5YA

If you don't wish to get an independent report we can provide you with an out of warranty assessment at a charge of £95.00. If we locate a manufacturing defect we will be able to refund the cost and the service will be free including the repairs.
If you can include your telephone number on the report, one of the team will be in contact to discuss what needs to be done to get you up and running as quickly as possible.
    Hope this helps.

    Kind Regards,

    Paul

Whilst the contract is with the seller, it is often easier to deal directly with the manufacturer. As Currys have stated that they require an independent report, which will be at the OP's expense if the fault is not inherent, it would do no harm to ask the manufacturer if they are willing to help before pursuing the retailer.

Hence, the suggestion of contacting the manufacturer is certainly not bad advice.

You have absolutely nothing to loose contacting the manufacture. If they say "Sorry, No" all you have done is wasted a little bit of time and some money on a phone call, best thing they'd do is repair/replace. I know MSE consumer rights forum have a mindset of Retailer, retailer retailer, but going outside of the retailer can sometimes be a better option.

It is bad advice because it allows the retailer to escape its responsibilities.Even says so here-http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/consumer-rights-refunds-exchange#quick
