Oh how I wish I'd be eligible for a mere 10% of the saving as commission every time someone saves!

You should be. Whats your paypal account?

As Heinz has said 18185 is 5p and thats all, not 5p per min or any other per min rate.

    Ouch with regards the bill.:o

You most certainly are missing something (I don't think I inserted on it "BT now costs less for daytime calls to 01/02 numbers that 18185

Think I was having one of my blonde moments! i read
(BT is now cheaper for weekday daytime and weekend 0845 calls); as meaning weekday 01/02 calls and weekend 0845 calls for some strange reason!

Your helpful post now makes perfect sense.

re the 240 bill. That does include 2 lines as we have a seperate line we use for the fax machine.

Just a note for people to check there bill carefully as I had a lot of premium numbers listed on it and when I rang thinking the worst of my DH I got a fax tone so I rang BT who said it was sky. So when the children (5 & 6) have been playing on the sky + games they have been connecting them. This added about 30.00 to my bill over 3 months!

Can feel some good savings coming on thanks to you and this site.

Regarding the fax only line, am I right in thinking that the only thing I need to do with this is reg it on 18185 and then each fax (which we only send mon to fri daytime) will cost 5p?

If you don't use a CPS provider and, normally, your calls go out on BT, you can get BT to bar 09 numbers free of charge. That'll stop the little dears!

Alternatively, one or more Phone Guards may be a wise investment.

As long as the line is only used for sending faxes and the fax numbers called are UK 01/02 numbers, yes. OTOH, a line is a line is a line - and dialling any number is possible!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Sorry for changing the theme ofb the thread, just one last question.

    If I follow stage 2....

[2]. Sign up for Primus Saver Option 2 as your Carrier PreSelect (CPS)Ф calls provider

and I continue paying line rental to BT and ask them to barr 09 numbers will that still keepn the number barred?

    Also what does OTOH mean?

OTOH = On The Other Hand.

If you opt for any CPS, BT barring 09 calls will be ineffective - because your calls would then normally go out on the CPS and so they would have to implement the bar (Primus say the can't do so). However, Primus have said to others that BT barring would work - but I can't see how.

Easy workaround on the Sky thing.

    (1). Get BT to bar 09 calls;
(2). On your Sky box, press Services 401 Select, Telephone settings and insert a 1280 prefix (don't forget to scroll down and Save New Settings).

That'll make your Sky box dial out on BT (even its monthly freephone Call Home will be on BT) and, as 09 numbers will be barred, the children will be thwarted.

As I always say, theres always a way to stop em getting your cash. it's just knowing how! perfect!

Just one last, last question I have just been reading another thread (primus broardband) and someone says that they on the option 2 tarrif only pay 2p per min for daytime calls, now a fax takes less than a minute to send would you say I need not do anything with that line just set it to the option 2 package and not use 18185?

Primus Saver Option 2 weekday UK 01/02 rate is 2.5p/minute - with a minimum call charge of 4p - so it'd be borderline for a single page fax. For multi-page faxes though 18185 would undoubtedly win.

But you're thinking in MSE mode now!

So they have finally added their charges and lowered rental to compensate huh so I am 50p worse off. I always pay my bill online on my pay date - I only work part time and I am paid on the 25th of each month. Now, I have a problem, I would use dd but you don't have the option to change the payment date. I don't have money to pay the bill mid month when the bill is dated! So I CAN'T DO IT!!!! it is ridiculous! You should be able to change the payment due option like you can with most other companies! I find it hard to believe that dd costs less to process than an online payment anyway! In a year of so's time, will we have the option to reclaim all the charges.....heee hee :)
