Don't you think BT shot themselves in the foot?
They will be losing at least £20 a month from me. Yes I still have line rental but don't most of that go to Openreach?0 -
I do think they did yeah. Should have left it where it was to be honest, but what do I know about buisness? :PThe "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20

Yes, they should have left it how it was.
Look how many people had been paying £3 extra each and every quarter without complaining, the moment they switch from offering discounts to a surcharge people aren't happy. Though the charge has gone up from £3 to £4.50 for not paying by DD.
I'm not saying it's right to charge the amount extra BT are, but for many years people have been happily paying. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
Yeah I know, but it still makes a differece to one arm of the company.
And the whole BT group are losing out.0 -

"BT has charged customers who pay by direct debit less than customers who pay by other means for several years. However, the increase from May raises an issue of how much it may be reasonable to charge. Ofcom is currently considering the issue as it relates to such charges across the communications sector."0 -
Apparently David Hamilton (MP not Diddy) has started a Commons Motion which has/had 35 MP's sinatures.
Maybe worth asking your own MP to support this.

Having recently discovered this "charge" on my BT bill , I wondered about the legality of coercing people into using DD , as someone else pointed out none of the major retail outlets suffer from not having us all pay by DD but seem to struggle by with us paying in all sorts of weird and wonderful ways ,outdated cash for example ! I was recently told that in the Republic of Ireland , forcing or heavy handed encouragement to use DD is not legal , anyone know if this is true and any reason why we couldn't we have same here ?0
