Thanks for the tip - works elsewhere, too.

Does anyone know how to get alerts when new deals are put on foursquare, instead of manually having to look for them

Thanks. Can confirm it works in Bristol too so presumably nationwide. It doesn't show up when doing a search for specials but does when you specifically search for Argos.

American Express don't advertise them specifically but bunch them with other offers. They announce most on their American Express UK Facebook page. Otherwise just check on Foursquare for Specials every week or so, or of course here.

Shop Small has just launched, from 1st November to 30th November. Looks like there's a shed load of savings to be had under their spend £5, get £5 back scheme.

I got emailed the details via Avios so I'm just going to post their info page: http://www.avios.com/collect/cp/amex-shop-small-offer-duo?ecamp=AV1397&ever=01&eloc=BTNGET&from=notmobile

Unsure how the offer works yet as pretty much every shop that accepts Amex is showing up, but it seems that you can use the offer on your first visit to EVERY shop. There's 20 within a 1 minute walk from my house that accept Amex so that's a whole heap of cash to be saved...
Now that your Card is registered, when you spend £5 or more one time at each participating business location, you'll receive a £5 credit on your statement. Remember, there's no limit to how many times you can Shop Small at different locations and get rewarded each time.

It also seems like there's no action required to activate the discount other than spending.

Remember also that if you have more than one Amex card then you can ask merchants to split a transaction across multiple cards, potentially saving £10, £15, £20 etc or more.

Oh and to view participating merchants, visit http://amex.co.uk/mapshopsmall

I have spoken to AMEX customer services. It is a genuine offer but only valid for the following cards (see terms and conditions box):

American Express Platinum Cashback Credit Card

    Platinum Charge Card

Preferred Rewards Gold Card or Green Card card issued in the UK by American
    Express Services Europe Limited.
  • What do you mean they don't know about it? See my link above on the amex.co.uk domain. My original email is from Avios and my confirmations are from Amex.

What's the difference between direct Amex and "other" Amex cards?

Why would Avios send out an email when their card isn't in the campaign?

Interesting but so far seems to be a London-only thing as far as I can tell? I've tried a few major Scottish cities and no merchants showing up so far...
