don't use a bin bag they tear easily,needs to be strong enough to protect the item,a rubble bag or proper mailer bag0

I've used dustbin bags & have never had a problem. I've also received lots in bin bags & the only problem I've had is when the muppets who send it use loads of tape that you need to cut.0

If I were more of a clothes horse, I probably would scour eBay for bargains - I suppose I already look for books going for a song on both eBay and Amazon, and over the last six weeks have acquired quite a considerable library of hard-to-find or out-of-print academic books. So those are my clothes! I fancy taking a trip to Oxford to go to all the secondhand bookshops there - I bet I will find heaps.
@Cake. I agree about vintage clothing, I guess I'm not bothered - I just go into charity shops and buy what I feel is right. I like to dress smartly, but smart for me is a collar, skirt and tights...even my suit is now too small for me (ouch!).
I do pick up a few nice shirts, and a really good large-size hat (can never buy proper hats in shops, my head is too big!) made of paper (believe it or not - I didn't!) so it folds up neatly without getting damaged. I was cross when it arrived all shoved into a small box --- but then appreciated the genius of the design when I realised it hadn't got creased as a proper straw hat might have done.
Then it started to pour with rain so it was six weeks before I could wear it

Hear hear - but watch out for the binbag. I participated in a particularly heated thread a few years ago on the official boards when the OP had got a complaint from a buyer that she had sent a prom dress in a bin bag and it had got badly crushed.
She couldn't work out what had gone wrong. I mean, bin-bags are OK. (Tape is a pet peeve of mine and I hate it when an item gets damaged when hacking into something - this is why I don't tend to use recycled packaging as it usually has to be mummified in tape
). But - and I'm sure you do this, but many people don't - the item has to be properly protected. It's not nice to receive something crushed - for ordinary wear it may be OK - but for formal wear, it just shows a lack of thought.
It was also one of the 'what do you expect, this is eBay' variety of threads which pop up with depressing regularity. The official boards are getting to be basically a lesson on how to keep customers at arm's length and make for depressing reading

I would be savage if I received a prom dress in a bin bag.
I bought a stock of posh boutique plastic carriers a while ago & use them mostly. I've got smaller plastic mailers as well but think that the bags look nicer especially for anything that costs more than £10.
For anything decent, a few vintage evening dresses I sold were folded in acid free tissue & then boxed. The frocks didn't sell for huge amounts to some people, around £30 but I wanted them to look nice when they arrived as well as get there safely.0 -

back with an update on the case here.
Sent the item back and the seller received it on Monday (according to the Collect+ tracking), and finally got my refund today (not sure what took so long).. BUT, I received a bit less than I originally paid!? Got a partial refund of £13.99 instead of £14.99 that I originally paid (item+postage). So £1 less.. :huh: And of course the seller didn't cover the £4.99 I had to pay to get the item sent back to her either.
Sigh, getting really fed up with this.
Guess I have to e-mail the seller and ask why I didn't get a full refund.. :doh:
On a happier note, another seller I purchased something from a while back gave me a full refund of an item that wasn't as described (was quite stained (stains didn't wash off) and not so fresh, even if listed as "no stains or marks"), and I didn't have to send the item back (it was very heavy and bulky), so I didn't have to lose out on return postage there.
Glad I contacted the seller.. I almost didn't, because I thought I couldn't be bothered dealing with another unhelpful seller and pay expensive return for an item that the seller misdescribed, but the seller was very friendly and helpful so I'm very pleased about that. :T Also escalated a case today about a dress that I paid for almost a month ago that never arrived (and no contact from the seller despite messages and a case being opened). The case closed in my favour, so I'm getting my money back. Looking at the sellers feedback now, and she's received 3 negatives (and no positives) the last week and her feedback is now on the minus-side! :eek: 0 -
I would email your seller and ask about the odd refund amount. If they aren't forthcoming then send a second email explaining that as you sent the item tracked you will open a dispute with paypal to recover the full amount.0

Thanks for your reply.
Sent the seller a message asking about the odd refund amount but still haven't gotten a reply, this was 3-4 days ago now. Wonder if I should just open a case. Altho, £1 is not a big deal of course, but it annoys me a lot the way the seller is dealing with this situation. It was her mistake in the first place sending me a kids coat instead of a womens.. :mad:0
