Lastly, the basic O2 simplicity 600 you quote doesn't have any data mentioned. However, the O2 site does have a "special offer" that gives you "free" 500mb data for the first 12 months[/url]

Did your O2 sales person add that to your contract? If not, you could face a huge bill. Best check - quickly!!!!

I have a screenshot of my online account . i am unable to post an image here, if i PM it to someone else could they kindly embed it? it illustrates the deal 02 offered me, and I have redacted personal information

Phew, they cancelled it. It will take 24 hours.

I'm glad I checked online at o2.co.uk to see that it's actually a 12 month contract. And thanks to you guys for urging me to do it immediately!

So, I'll call them in two days time (once the cool-off cancellation is complete - it takes 24 hours), and ask about being put on a 30-day contract. What's a reasonable price to pay? (I see the tarriffs listed on their website but wondered if I could negotiate a bit extra out of them?)

COnsidering I now own the handset (my iPhone 4) I would actually be prepared to shop around for a better value deal.

Remember, if you do find a better deal with another network do not cancel your O2 contract if you want to retain your number. Instead, ask for your PAC code and use it within 30 days transferring your number to the new network.

Would i then cancel after i have ported my number? (Can I not do both - tell them I wish to cancel in 30 days or ASAP and get a PAC code?)

Thanks very much for posting my image.

I told the Retentions team I was about to leave o2, so I think they threw in the £6 data ("Loyalty discount") as a sweetner.

I was quite happy with that so I accepted. (Not realising it was a 12 month contract)

Well, if o2 don't offer me a good 30-day contract, what do people think about Three?

I really want data, with 500Mb being an absolute minimum. I don't really text or use calls much, but it would be nice to have some inclusive minutes, just in case.

I hate being stung for voicemail charges - I expect them to be part of my inclusive minutes, but cannot be bothered to wade through all the small print.

No. It's an either or situation. If you cancel, the contract and number are dead and it will cause confusion.

When the number is transferred and working on the new network, that's the proof your old contract is dead.

I did not know that! I am so glad you told me.

250m+Unltd cost £10 at giffgaff on PAYG (O2 signal)
    1200+1Gb - £12x1 at Virgin (EverythingEverywhere?)
    200+500Mb - £8x1 at Talkmobile (Vodafone)

You may want to have your phone unlocked if it's still locked to O2 (not needed for giffgaff, but worth doing anyway).

Chrishomer has asked that I post the URL with his O2 bill . Glad to help

Hey, once I enter the PAC number and move to Giff Gaff (I can do that right now - I have my SIM Card and my PAC code) will o2 cancel the payment they want from me for the next 30 days? In other words, I want to avoid an overlap where I am paying for BOTH Giff Gaff and O2, but only actually getting service from one of them.
