DebtFree I often put carrot sticks in the packed lunch boxes - carrots last ages. Also I sometimes put a little pot of raisins in. I buy a bag of the mini boxes then refill with value fruit until the boxes get a bit too bashed, then just buy a new bag of mini boxes. They actually last up quite a while before getting quite bashed in. You could just use mini tuperware boxes, but they can sometimes be tough to open.

Oh yes ;) Usually do a medium carrot per person. I have bought the ready cut sticks before if having lots of people over for a party though

  • Hi everyone, not posted in a good while, i have been lurking a bit though, hope everyone is ok. Last month i stopped counting my budget but came well within, so pleased about that. This month im going to do £100, i know its a bit late posting that, but i know what i have spent and its LOTS so will have to pull my belt in tight.

ikkle87 am loving the pasties, stupid question really, do you pre cook the medallions.

sb88 i think the fact that you are looking at your budget is a credit to you, money can magically disappear if you dont watch it, but now your wiser, so dont worry, youll get there, maybe do an inventory, meal plan and you will be fine, its all a learning curb, good luck to you.

Flo sounds like youve been busy, look forward to seeing your lovely food piccies.

I will update sig later when ive checked receipts.

:eek: Warning to all YS Hunters!!:eek:

Just caught up on some broadcasts I download and there was an item this week saying that SMs have agreed to give nearly out of date food to charities that feed families that are struggling to feed themselves. I applaud charitable works and can only hope that they keep thinking of their YS Hunters and keep catering to that market - it's what keeps me looking in the SM at the moment. Let's hope their marketing and behavioural analysis shows them that is what draws the OS Board members in!

BTW In-it-not-to-give-it-away and others feeling pressed to use stuff up - I shred or chop it in the processor and freeze it to use in quick mid-week meals when I get in from a 13 hour day and still have to cook for the family (and DS's friend). Bendy carrots and celery, cubed butternut squash, sprouting onions and garlic are all particularly good. Also cheese so it's ready to sprinkle on lasagne or into white sauce for Macarone cheese. In fact I routinely grate the bogof packs as they take up less space in a flattened plastic ziplock bag than they do as a block.

Last night we had roast potatoes, chicken, cauliflower, mange tout & onion for dinner.
Tonight - just a snack as I am baby sitting this afternoon then off to watch 2 DGC dancing in a show. Can I stay awake - still SO tired after the marathon sewing episode - my family ignore the fact that I have ME.

I dont post on hear every day but try to keep up with the thread! Really must try and post more to keep me motivated.
Need to pop to shops later for baby milk plus a few other bits, will do a list then stick to it....

Ive read lots of people say they make sandwiches and the freeze them? Does the bread not go wet?? What kind of things do you put in them?? One Dd loves ham - which I guess would be fine, the other LOVES pate (the one in a tub - blugh in a sandwhich i think :) ) Would that be ok??

Love the cheese and bacon pasty. Will have to give it a try, thanks.

If you didn't have any bacon you could use ham in Ikkle87's cheese savouries. We love what I think was originally a Jamie Oliver idea - split croissants, spread with a thin layer of mascarpone, add parma ham (or wafer thin ham if you are skint!), a thin slice of emmental and put the lid of the croissant back on, bake in a hot oven for about 6-8 mins. We have them as a treat breakfast when we have friends staying.
But after school I have a houseful coming to watch the tennis and I am going to pop the cheese and bacon savouries in the oven and wait for them to be devoured!
PS I am assuming the bacon does need to be pre-cooked.
