Monarch Birmingham - Malaga!!!!

I have just looked at the prices of Monarchs fights, last year we paid around £600 for the flights and the extras we wanted, now it's £948.77!!!!

I just can't believe how much they have gone up, so now I am looking for a decent airline, for the 3 of us to fly with

Any suggestions?

I have just looked at Sky scanner, and they have come up with the same basic price of £704, that's without any extras, such as extra leg room (As my mom is disabled).

We are thinking of going 22nd december - 5 january.

If anyone finds any other airlines flying from birmingham to malaga, please let me know :)
  • You could also try alternative departure and arrival airports eg East Midlands, Almer!a

Thank you for your reply :) I will look into doing that, I can't believe how they have gone up lol

Not sure who does Barcelona > BHX at your time of year but Vueling have Barcelona > Malaga return flights for 100 euro each (all in) on the days you want. From experience Christmas/New Year flights are best booked early as there is a limited supply and demand increases nearer the time. Agree with your comment re geoffken post ~ what happened to ".... give new posters a chance. Please be especially nice."

Just looked up EasyJet Bristol return ~ some good prices ~ I would book now!

anyone finds any other airlines flying from birmingham to malaga, please let me know

    bmibaby
    Ryanair
    Thomson
    Thomas Cook

Same from East Midlands with the addition of Jet2

Edit: just noticed you are going in the winter... Not sure which airlines operate the route through the winter but you can certainly forget bmibaby who won't exist by then.

You could try booking the flight without the extra leg room and adding it later. Monarch often send through special offers after booking including cut price upgrades to extra leg room. If nothing comes up in time, you can always add it at full price just before you leave. In my experience, it's usually possible to upgrade even after you get on the plane at no extra cost.

Depending where you are going, ie Marbella and Estepona are almost as close to Gibraltar as Malaga

    Think outside the box.
BA will fly you LHR to Gibraltar those dates for £164pp rtn
    About Economy

    1 x 23kg checked baggage
Complimentary onboard food and bar service
    29-31" of legroom
    More Details

Ryanair winter flights from Birmingham should be out soon, but going by the Manchester flights , theres not much in it from what Monarch are offering.

It is super high season after all

Its no suprise prices have shot up. bmibaby will shut down at the end of the summer leaving very limited competition on the route. Plus don't forget the UK has yet again increased aviation taxes since last year so the government will be getting some of the extra cash.

Ryanair havent released their winter flights yet and they should have much cheaper prices- though I realise that their leg room is tight its the same as easyjet and other low cost carriers.
As others have said try different airports. But remember to add the cost of getting from Almeria/ Gibraltar/ Jerez de la Frontera to your destination, compared to Malaga.

    Good luck :)
