Have to say I feel let down by the sale of the site. I don't think it will remain as impartial as it has.

Its put me completely off the site to be honest.

I suspect if offered that kind of money we'd all be greedy enough to take it and sod the principles.

I certainly see Martin Lewis in a different more negative light now, no matter how the sale of the site is all dressed up to look and from a credability point of view, when he's sat on breakfast telly's sofa I won't know if the advice is impartial or what Moneysupermarket want him to spout out.

Totally killed it for me and I think it will for a lot of others. Wouldn't be surprised if the site now sinks as its lost all credability I think.:mad::mad:

Me Too! I'll be looking for a new forum to post on, maybe an impartial credit union or Citizens Advice Bureau one. Pleased for Martin, but feel he should share some of his millions with the people who wrote his copy and pushed his posts to the top of google - US!! Wonder if it's possible to create a forum site where the forum posters get paid for page views/writing/google ad clicks? Hmmmn...might investigate!
It's certainly possible, but only practicable on a site of this scale.

I feel lots of copy cat sites sprouting up from nowhere offering themselves up as the new MSE. DoshSavingExpert.com? WongaSavingExpert.com?

Actually sites run by users on social media might be the next progression ie Twitter Facebook - hot uk deals already has follow button I'm also looking at Citizens Advice Facebook page

    http://www.facebook.com/CitizensAdvice

might see some of you on there!

Social media has its limitations, unless its mates telling each other something's cheap. The ability to connect with hundreds of thousands on this site through the forum is what makes it successful. If this site never had the forum, I seriously doubt it would have the clout it does.

Consumer Action Group is another worth sticking in the bookmarks list.

I like HUKD, but it's nowhere near as good as here.

  • Boycott MoneySavingExpert will be gathering pace somewhere I expect, I'm not a member of UKUncut (literally too busy treading water every day to keep our family afloat! like many others on here) but I wouldnt be surprised if thats the next big story dominating Twitter/FB/pol blogs next weekend. They don't like dishonest big business and will probs get a campaign up. I might start a FB group myslef, just incaseone day some of the people from here support it,give advice, write posts and somehow we can one day share any proceeds with all posters - but i don't know how we could work that - maybe by paid view posts? I'll do it anyway, just to stake a claim - Martin won't mind - he's long gone now with his earnings! Maybe MoneySavingAlternative would be good name? It wont be long before the first job the MSE staff are asked to do is to throw negative/honest posters off here....

Doesn't this make a lot of you people kind of hypocritical? How many of you would turn down even a million pounds for a website?

He's the 'money saving expert' because he knows when to take a good deal. That's what this site has always been about: Find the best deal at the best time, and never pay more than you have to.

Well, I'd say that selling MSE for that much, while disappointing in that the content my become biased, is fair enough. Who are we to decide if he has enough money and to begrudge him it after he has provided a very useful service to us FOR FREE?

Money supermarket might ruin the site, but then, is is their site now.

It's not been impartial for years. Every link that is recommended is an affiliated one now, the un affiliated ones rarely get even a mention. Not saying the affiliated sites are bad, just that at times there are better ones that get overlooked. The side bar is full of links to paid for advertising. I've turned all cookies off, and put the site as restricted due to the skimlinks being loaded by MSE. I don't need them knowing everywebsite I click through to. The whole site is paid for advertising.
  • Not hypocritical if user-generated co-op and if maybe posters cd get paid via page views. Yes i realise a lot of ads were here already -didnt mind as it was martin - now i DO mind, always hated moneysupe!

Martin Lewis has helped so many people save a lot of money,i heard he started with 80 pence so good luck and well done to him.
  • yes, good luck indeed-just wish he could have found a way of sharing with the people who wrote his copy - us!!

Anyway, I made a fb group just in case people start getting banned so we can still communicate if there are any developments with a boycott or something - wont have time to do much with it for a couple weks but at least its there
