Yes,you're right but I think the OP said that she could manage with a backpack sometimes.0 -
- Haworth and Thornton in Bradford is the stomping ground of The Brontes.
- The Lido at Knaresbrough and walk through the trail along the river to Harrogate (passing Mother Shipton's mentioned earlier.)
- Leonards Farm at Esholt, Bradford
- Bagshaw Museum at Batley,
- Oakwell Hall Country Park, Batley
- Red House Museum, Gomersal (double check open again) - has links with Brontes
- Shibden Hall and Park at Halifax (oops just seen that you've got that on op)
- The Industrial Museum, Moorside Rd, Bradford

The Dig at York is awesome. http://www.digyork.com/
Clumber park http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/clumber-park/things-to-see-and-do/
Weston Park museum has a Magical worlds theme at the moment. http://www.museums-sheffield.org.uk/museums/weston-park/exhibitions/current/magic-worlds
There's a great water park at Millhouses http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/sheffield/hi/people_and_places/nature/newsid_8718000/8718231.stm
Magna is FAB - dark and noisy inside the main bit though which may or may not be good depending on the kids. http://www.visitmagna.co.uk/
The playpark at Magna is only £1 if you're not going in to the museum. It's the biggest and best I've ever seen. The water part is great too. http://www.kompan.co.uk/cases/kompan%E2%80%99s-magna-centre-playground-inspires-budding-designers/Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
I've got ADHD. You can ask me about it but I may not remember to answer...0 -
The Jorvik isn't as good as it used to be. All the interesting displays (like genuine Viking poop ) have all gone and it's a bit bland and boring. The moving chair display thingy is alright, but it's a tad expensive for what it is.
Also the queues are ridiculously long too, so kids might get a bit impatient waiting to get in.
The Castle Museum at York is better value for money, and it has tons of stuff to look at.
I think they charge a ridiculous amount of money to go into York Minster too now. Someone might come and confirm, but I'm sure it's £12 a person to have a proper nosey round. It used to be donations.
Viking poop has moved to DIG. Not that expensive as they are a charity and you get free admission within a year to go back.
It's better to go before 11am or after 2pm to avoid the longest queues (and yes, I used to work for them).0 -
A couple that I dont think have been mentioned, all liked by my kids who are 11 and 13 now!
Thorp Perrow near Bedale. The animals, especially the Meerkats are always a bit hit and DS got to fly an owl last time we were there.
Fountains Abbey near Ripon.
Sewerby Park near Bridlington.
All of these would be wheelchair friendly. If you want to visit Scarborough the Park and Ride drops you off in the town. You can then walk downhill to the seafront and catch the bus back from there without having to push the wheelchair back up the long hill.0 -
St Ives Estate in Bingley has a great adventure playground & there are accessible walks.0

I forgot to mention the Yorkshire Wildlife Park just outside Doncaster. Its all flat and lots of great animals to look at (Lions, Tigers, Lemurs, etc)
Was gonna suggest this, its 10 mins from my house and its briliiant, is a bit pricey but I think for the animals they have its great value! Very accessible and loads of parking.

Lots of our favourites have already been mentioned so I'll try to think of new ones.
Sprotbrough Flash nature reserve (Doncaster) - http://www.ywt.org.uk/reserves/sprotbrough-flash-nature-reserve
Free and a very nice walk. We take our 4 year old regularly. There are some hides along the walk so you can try to spot the birds. Also it is all flat so fine for wheelchairs. There is a nice picnic area the other side of the canal and often an ice cream van in the car park
A 2 minute drive up the hill into Sprotbrough village, there is a nice new playground.
Potteric Carr nature reserve - http://www.ywt.org.uk/reserves/potteric-carr-nature-reserve
Cusworth Hall -
Entry to the grounds is free. There is a nice grass area for lots of playing and picnics. At the bottom of the hill are 2 large ponds with plenty of ducks, swans and other birds so great for duck feeding. The hill is quite a climb back up but there is a path at the side which would be easier with a wheelchair. I have done it countless times with a buggy. Near the carpark is a big playground too.
Entry to the house itself is £2 for adults and under 5s are free, so not an expensive day out. They often run interesting events and their summer fayre is excellent.
Charlotte's ice cream parlour, Dewsbury - http://www.charlottesjerseyicecream.co.uk/index.php
I've not been here yet but it looks fun
Treasure hunts -

Again, one I haven't tried yet. Costs £5 for a hunt and you can choose from loads of different areas. It tells you which ones are wheelchair friendly.Making money for Christmas 2012!0 -
I'm really excited about the holidays now....loads of new places to visit. We're regulars at the Doncaster Wildlife place as its pretty cheap with disabled child/carer and they have fantastic sensory pod that you can hire free of charge.
The rest are totally new to me so I shall be googling. I love the sound of the Forbidden Corner but think it might be a bit scarey....(6 and 3), think I'll save those for a couple of years time.
Thank you all xx0
