Yorkshire, places to go with the kids

Most of my favourites in Ripon and Harrogate have been mentioned already.
I haven't been to the Ripon museums (The Workhouse, The Police Museum and the Courthouse) but they're on my list for the summer, I think they do a saver ticket for all 3 and it's not too expensive.
A little down the A1 there's Leeming Bar station where you can get on the Wenselydale Railway for a trip over the Dales.
The National Media Museum in Bradford is free and it's a good way to spend a few hours. And although not cheap, the IMAX there is brilliant.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Sunny day, you can't beat Scarborough for the day. Park in the Park and Ride.0

Another vote for Newby Hall, but that's because I worked there. If you think the statues look clean in the house, it's because I cleaned them
I took the opportunity to travel around a bit when I was in that area... Ripley Castle was lovely, Mother Shipton's Cave at Knaresborough is fantastic. Stump Cross Caverns is a fun trip and good for wet days. Definitely Fountains Abbey too. Also the bus trip across the dales to Whitby is a good trip.

Are your kids walkers or could they be turned into ones?
These are all walks off the bus and would be covered by a Metropass.
Golden Acre Park by bus, walk back along Meanwood Valley trail (take in The Hollies enroute)
Bus up to Kirkstall, walk back along the canal.
Pick up the 36 and get off at the Harewood bridge, walk along the river, paddle and walk back upto to the village.
Take the bus into Addingham and walk to Bolton Abbey and back?
Ilkley, onto the Moor and back?
There are some cracking walks on the North Yorks side of Otley.
Or get on the Dalesbuses - you get to look out the window as well
Grassington is a bit touristy but.. walk upto to Coniston Pie and pick the bus up back from Kilnsey.
From Buckden you can do the Pike, walk back to Starbotton or Kettlewell or do the Cray/Yockenthwaite circuit.
Alternatively check out the 36 Gold Rider and head out from Harrogate to Pateley Bridge or from Ripon to Masham etc.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Castleford has a step back to the 70's shopping day, every day of the week, with locals dressing in 1970's clothing to shop and walk about the town, it's in its 39th year.
Daily, Castleford high street from 9-5 pm.
Unfair...only ventured as far as Casvegas - didn't know there was a high street:)
Love these suggestions, definitely do the castles, steam trains..shall look up Aysgarth Falls...
Bluebell1000 - we live at Newby Hall, I love it there:), looking for some new places but I'm sure we'll be there a couple of days at least.
RAS - we do love walking, however dd is in wheelchair, so I'm cautious about new places on my own with her and 3 year old! She still just about fits in a backpack, but I'd need to do a recce first - shall look into your recommendations, they would love the bus trips.
Meer53 - I don't know Scarbrough, but would love the trip over...can you recommend and places to visit?
Thank you all x0 -

If you go anywhere near Northallerton there is a pool there with slides/a wave machine- we loved it their as children too. Not sure if its still around as it has been a good 10 years since we have been, but I imagine so!Society always tramples down on those that are different. Abnormalities are smoothed over. RSPB site are Fairburn Ings, Bempton Cliffs and Old Moor.
As well as Scarborough and Whitby on the coast, Filey is quieter and Bridlington and Flamborough Head are also good.
The Sculpture Park is great.
In South Yorkshire:
Wentworth Woodhouse is the biggest fronted building in Europe and several follies are in the area (Hoober Stand, Needles Eye). The village and garden centre are good too.
Cannon Hall and Farm
Butterfly World at North Anston0
