Hi all. well the plan is that we are getting married this year (I will be 40 early next year and have never been married so I want to get married before I'm 40) we haven't even set a date yet, so it will end up being a mad rush very OS style wedding.(donations of anything useful for our wedding gratefully received!!! lol) Our mortgage is high so we are trying to save to make extra payments to lower it as quick as possible. We need some DIY doing on the house (we've been quoted £1500 and that doesn't include the new kitchen I would like)Eldest DD has another couple of residential trips coming up in a few months (that will be a total of about £400) and I have never been on a proper holiday, so as you can see we have alot to save for too!!

  • Hi everyone!

I suppose you can tell what the OB and I are saving for? We don't have kids so we like to get around and about.
But of course its expensive so we go on a big trip every 2 years (previous destinations: New Zealand and Namibia/Botswana).
So the GC savings will go towards out 2009 Central American Adventure.
We saved £130 in Jan (spent £70 of £200 budget) and this month we hope to save a further £100 (fingers crossed).

Can someone explain what is involved in the following, as they sound very interesting.

  • Buget official blown :(. Spent £43 in Morrisons today. Had to spend a bit more than I'd hope as I'm catering for 10 tomorrow for lunch. It's a veggie lunch so it could have been worse! I've been busy this afternoon making a HM cheesecake and quiche ready for tomorrow.

I'm a bit frustrated about the whole budget thing really. I have to take my M&D shopping and neither are able to drive atm. They like to go twice a week and only like to go to Morrisons (although there is an Aldi opening soon) and they get to see my DD and it kills 2 birds with 1 stone, iykwim? I think I'm gonna have to try a different approach next month and limit each visit to Morrisons to a smaller buget. Rather than £200 a month maybe I should give myself £25 per visit? I have also managed to cram my freezer this month so maybe with a different approach and a full freezer hopefully I can achieve next month.

Good luck to everyone else for the rest of the month :)

  • Evening!

Don't get chance to read/post much these days....life's got a habit of getting in the way!! Between work, school runs, housework etc etc, everything's fallen by the wayside a little!

I've now spent £362.76 of my February budget (£400) - so am NOT going to come in on target this month - still got a week's shopping to get yet!!!!

Keep telling myself that if it'd been a normal 4 week month, I would actually be under budget - but it's not, it's 5 weeks & I've failed again:rotfl:

Will be setting £400 again next month...but any overspend in February will be coming off this....so will post actual amount in March's thread nearer the time!

Best of luck everyone...hope you're all doing a bit better than me;)

    Hi Guys

Broadband has been playing up big-style, so I haven't updated since my last post on 6 Feb, nor have I been able to read your posts.

Spend for the month has shot up to £201.26, so just under £40 left to spend over the next 10 days to keep within budget - should just about manage that as there's quite a bit in the freezer and storecupboard.

I thought that by meal planning I'd find it relatively easy to stick to the budget, but it's been tougher than I thought - I obviously need to work a bit harder! I've come unstuck with things like pack-up for hubby and daughter, they got a bit fed-up with chese or tuna!

Still I have kept within the budget I've set, which gives me something to work on.
  • I've eventually caught up with all the posts! Got a bit behind as I had a busy weekend and bother with the internet connection. Over the last week I've spent £35.99 on various shopping trips. Over all I'm pretty pleased as I'm on track to come in well under budget :T. However, finances have been pretty tight this month and I'm hoping not to have to buy too much until I get paid on the 28th so no doubt I'll be on looking for advice on how to make meals from various bits and pieces.

    Thanks for the support

Queen_B, you've reminded me that I've been meaning to ask that question, what do you all do with the money you've saved - either the difference in spend from your old pre-GC days or money left from your GC budget?

I haven't really put the money I have saved away... but I have managed to pay off quite a bit of my credit card bill :D . My last bill was for £9 odds, which is the lowest it has been for years
Also, I managed to not use my credit card over Christmas... at all.
So the vicious circle has been broken IYKWIM.
My car has to go in for a service next week, which will be paid for, cash.
I also want to get my bedrooms and living room decorated this year, so extra cash will be going towards doing that.

One of my work collegues bought me a terramundi for my xmas, so I have been putting my £2 and spare £1 into that. I also have one of those bank tins from the pound shop, that you have to open with a tin opener...which is almost full. That has coppers and silver in. I think I will open that at the begining of April, as I have a few days off then, and it will help with the decorating stuff.

My budget is well and truely blown. But I still managed to get a couple of good bargains the other day.
    Bundle of Asparagus 30p
    3kg carrots 36p
2 big packs of Mushrooms 50p.

So I have made.. a massive pot of carrot and coriander soup - 6 portions have gone to my parents, 6 for the freezer
Mushroom curry, and mushroom stroganoff... both very yummy. 1 portion of each went to the freezer:D
And I have the oven on making Asparagus quiche now. Will make a cheese and onion one too, and also give my parents some of both of these too.

Well done to all still within budget... I am just waiting for March now :o
