Well i was going to sit and juggle the figures due to the Morrisons overspend but have decided that i`m not going to bother as it`s cheating
What i will do instead is to set the same amount in March for my budget and try harder to stick to it.
I am £16.65 over this month and its mainly because of the overeating hound and i am very glad to note that yesterday she only ate her normal two bowls ( is there a sigh of relief smiley)
My March budget is £160 for the month again and my March starts this Friday on payday, i have been trying to get round to resorting the freezer and doing a new inventory for the last two days so i will definitely get that done today and then do a new meal plan, this weeks plan changed drastically as i couldn`t bring myself to do the planned salads as the weather is soooo cold:rolleyes:
Everyones cat stories made me smile a bit as some of my past cats have been real characters - the one i have now included but thankfully she will eat whatever i give her and likes all brands of cat food as long as they are in jelly of just plain meat she`s not big on the gravy ones and she`s quite partial to a cheap tin of tuna every now and again. She does love ocean fish iams but a pack lasts her a while and now that i take the bowls up when she`s finished it lasts even longer as the hounds cant pinch it
Hope you all have NSD`s today:D

Just a quick update...
I managed to spend £3.20 at Farm Foods on Saturday and £6.32 at Morrisons (BOGOFs and bargains though!).
The running total is now £82.18 - £17.82 left for the rest of the month but I should only need bits and pieces to see me through to next Friday (29th) when my month finishes.Just 10 days left now!!!0 -

I must try much harder next month. When I lived up north we had a meat market in town-meat was much cheaper and you could get cheaper cuts too. Now (apart from still not knowing the area properly) I can't find a place to get cheap meat apart from those stall things at car boots and I've never had meat from them so I don't know how edible/safe etc it is
Ah well, guess I'll fathom it out eventually.GE 36 *MFD may 2043

To say this is my first month on the grocery challenge I am surprised at how well I am doing. Went to Asda last night for some goodies to keep me going for the rest of the week. OH is going away with work tomorrow so there will only be me to feed for the rest of the month.
Think I will put the money I have saved towards the council tax billI :heart2: saving money0 -
Queen_B, you've reminded me that I've been meaning to ask that question, what do you all do with the money you've saved - either the difference in spend from your old pre-GC days or money left from your GC budget?
Seems that you're all doing really well (and even those who've gone over by a few pounds will probably find the benefit of that in future months) so there should be a fair bit of extra dosh hanging around. I know MrsMcawber does really well with this, anyone else?... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Hello all,
Am glad to see everyone doing so well. I think the collective amout saved by this challenge must be massive! :T
OH and I are going to Belgium for our anniversary and we needed photos for the visa application. Of course we forgot about it and our blissful plan to get them done on our way home at the tube station crumbled to dust when we realised they've got rid of the photo booth at said station (a fact neither of us noticed on our way in to work in the morning!) So we went to the 24 hour supermarket nearby since we knew they had a booth. It was out of order but we were famished so ended up spending £4.20 on two disgusting boxes of cooked couscous , a fruit loaf, and a box of grapes (am trying to get OH to eat more fruit but the only ones he'll eat are grapes and cherries - not exactly MS in this season! ). We eventually had to go to Heathrow (not that far from home but not that near either!) for the photos only to find this morning that the embassy had a photo booth and all the other applicants were getting theirs done there. Some days you can't win!
Have also added in 90p for milk from the corner store so the total stands at £88.49. Another 10 days to go for the month to be over but am quietly confident that we will make it.
I used to put any money saved into an emergency fund (came in very handy when our TV licence expired without our noticing and the van came round the day after it did!) but when my in laws were here they spent quite a lot on groceries, so we're putting aside grocery savings to give them as a gift when we visit India.Mortgage (original/ current):193,000 (23/09/11)/ £102,500 (07/11/2019)

I'll be on statutory maternity pay from late April so I've been tucking away money left from our GC budget, to subsidise the leaner months ahead. If we didn't need it for that, I'd probably put it in a kitty for a summer holiday, nothing fancy, taking the caravan to the Welsh coast probably... Ah well, I can dream!0 -
