:T Just confirming another NSD - settled for the macaroni cheese and grilled it with sliced tomatoes and grated cheese over the top. To counteract the non-frugality of excess cheese, I baked a tray of sponges whilst the oven was warm, thus avoiding the need to spend on cakes/biscuits :D

    I [STRIKE]SHOULD[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]SHALL[/STRIKE] WILL stay within my grocery budget! I HOPE! :D

mhe - how did your loaf turn out?
I put the bread on a medium settng and to be honest i was a bit disappointed - the outside was too crispy the top soft and lots of flour stuck to the base. The paddle was stuck in it and was a devil to get out. MAde a fruit loaf later on which turned out better - paddle just fell out of that but i put it on light setting - base and sides fine but top looks a bit anemic. Now is this the machine or me at fault? I have my eye on the panasonic machine but i cant justift the £100 till i know whether im going to get feed up making my own bread!!

Thanks Cheerfulness4 for the advice on my breadmaker. I will try spraying the paddles next time. The funny thing is when I made a cake in it this evening it slid out easily. May be time to look for a newer breadmaker at a car boot sale!
As for the soggy sweet potato wedges I don't think I'll be doing those again although everyone liked the taste so might try mashing it instead for a change.

Went to MrT this morning and spent £25 on loads of cat food and some fruit. We now have £50 to last to the end of the month which should be easily achieved as we have loads in the freezer and will only need milk, fruit and veg.

We are all on half term this week and seem to be eating LESS than when we take packed lunches to school.

Oh, nearly forgot! Went to WW tonight and I had lost 3lb so nearly back at my goal weight!:T

    Good luck everyone from TheBees

With a baby on the way I'm starting to track food expenditure so I can work to a budget later on. I use local retailers as much as possible so easy to lose track of what I spend where.

£85 in five days for two of us Not quite the start I was after!

Hopefully it will even itself out over a longer period as I'm planning a big meat order this week. :o

Does amyone know of a useful website where you can put the name of an ingredient in and it gives recipes. I have some most strange tins left in the cupboard and need inspiration. eg jar of pickled walnuts.
Not done too well this month with the challenge. Unfortunately, we have had visitors here quite a few lunchtimes and although I enjoy the company it does add to the budget.
January food 175.00 spent 181.60 oops nothing left. £4000 challenge/3384.49 left
    heating oil £396.69,

    Hiya lovelies!

My cat eats tins of tuna and I cook him chicken thighs, - plus he *is* partial to a handful of prawns now and then. ;) Most days he eats the meat component of whatever we're eating. He has what's left of a bag of IAMs for back up but he hasn't had any for months.

When I come home and start rattling pots and pans in the kitchen he follows me in and I swear the expression on his face says "Excellent! What're we having??" :D

I have another delivery coming this afternoon of about £50 worth of shopping. I'm having all the washing powder, cleaning products, toilet roll, kitchen roll, 3kg bags of pasta, and toiletries etc delivered to save my arms - plus we need next weeks main meal components, packed lunch stuff and I had a £5 off £50 code to use up.

I hope it's going pretty well for you all,

    Love Jacks xxx :D
