Saved myself £15 :j today!
Been trying to get rid of the old divan base for weeks. Couldn't sell it (only wanted a few quid), and no way was I paying our local Council to take it away to the tip for a £15 charge (they take enough Council Tax off me, and the neighbouring Local Authority - Sefton MBC - take stuff like this away for free)
Someone on these forums put me on to the local freecycle group (see http://uk.freecycle.org/ )and a nice young couple collected it tonight! So not only did I save money, I did my bit for the environment as well

Saved myself at least a couple of grand today just by looking through some bits and pieces and cancelling some add ons.

Are you Liverpool, Knowsley or Lancs??? I must say I wish I'd known about Freecycle a few years ago....we were getting rid of a three piece suite from OH auntie which we had also had for a year or two...but was in perfectly good knick...we were getting another second hand off OH mum and dad.....I hate seeing things go to waste when they can do somebody:rolleyes:
We got a charity place from Liverpool to come out and they said it was not good enough??? because of the number that they are offfered/take...they have to be discerning.... It was clean, usable and would have done somebody who couldn't afford a new/refurbed one....but they would not take it....
In the end...we needed the space...I had to pay some 'removals' bloke £50 or £70 to 'take it away'....The 'free' removals for Liverpool Council ...whatever they are called....could not give me a day when they would collect....and wanted me to leave it outside my house as we have alleygates:eek:
Yes I'll just look like the Clampetts until you can get your act together:eek: me thinks not...annoying really..it was a good suite...but the other second hand one we got was better;)0
