That's it swear at me, but you know they've had you over. I know more about it than you do my friend.

Who's had me over? My car was fixed, old man gets increased premiums and can no longer run around crashing into peoples cars whilst saying "i've been driving 60 years and never had an accident".

At the end of the day, the Police aren't going to get involved when the only evidence is a scrap of paper saying "I saw him do it" or "she's a witch, burn her at the stake", it's not an efficient use of time or resources and for as much as an individual officer might want to do something about it, the instructions from above are clear, simple and final.
Go them with a physical injury from said incident and they might start to listen......

The Police will tell you it's "a civil matter" and point you toward your insurance company.....
With a witness to the incident, she won't have a leg to stand on.

How can I be so sure? Went through exactly the same thing (it was even on a Tesco car park) back in 2010.

I witnessed a guy scraping someones car then driving off last year. I reported him to the police and they launched an investigation and eventually prosecuted him.

A good samaritan. Too many would walk on by.

I agree, strider talks the talk from his keyboard but can't do it in real life. He let some lazy plod walk all over him.

No, you're mistaken. We don't agree at all.

I'm not sure why you appear to defend "lazy plod" and instead blame a member of the public. I believe when an incident is reported to the police, they should process and investigate it properly, first time. If an officer can't do that then they should be given their P45.
  • Regardless of whether the OP could fix it himself, the person who did it needs to be taught a lesson.

Similar has happened to me twice- once in a hospital car park where the driver drove off (luckily the car park had CCTV which caught the reg number) and although it was minimal damage, I certainly didn't plan on doing him any favours and went through his insurance for the damage

Second time it happened was a girl who had recently passed her driving test- she reversed into the back off my car, I was walking my dog in the park and she sat and waited untill I came back to tell me. We exchanged details and I spoke to her parents, but as she was so polite and honest (and accidents DO happen) I paid to repair it myself, they had enough expense fixing their own car. I did make the point to her parents that they should be proud that they have a daughter who is so honest. She had had her driving licence for less than a week- I don't imagine her insurance company was too happy with her!

    Why?

Her "politeness and honesty" saved them paying out for your repairs!

(They would have all counted as part of just one claim, and there would have been no cost to this charming girl or her parents had you not been putty in her hands and you had put in a claim!)

I've just had some toe rag clip the corner of my car. All on the plastic bumper but deep gouges as they have seemingly tried to park behind and misjudged the gap but as going so slow, they must have known.

Now if I find who it is, I'll have them banged to rights and coughing up a large contribution to my expenses fund.

Personally, if I was an insurance company I would be wondering why the hell we are insuring someone who goes reversing into cars a week after a driving test, and why exactly she was given a driving licence in the first place.

    Maybe thats just me though.

Still don't see why you thought paying for the damage this novice driver (who's insurer was paying for her repairs) did to your car helped her or her parents in any way. Your noble money saving gesture didn't help the girl, just penalised you, so not a clever money saving ruse to be followed by others who get charmed by "honest, polite" young teenage girls!

All you did was help her insurance company (or actually the rest of their customers!)

If this happened within the last 6 years you can still put in a claim, if on reflection you now would like to get your money back!
