Back to earth with a bump though!
I have a question - My Nan died shortly before xmas in 2003 but being the organised person she was, she'd already bought all her presents, and mine was a bottle of Avon's Treselle perfume. I've been using it for special occasions down the years and still have a bit left in the bottle. Firstly - how do you know if a perfume has gone off? It still smells ok to me but it's quite a few years old now.
Secondly, once I'm done with the bottle, being the hoarder I am I'd like to keep it and possibly do something with it. Any ideas for possible uses of an old perfume bottle? My husband tells me I'm being silly and just to chuck it, but...:(
This is what the bottle looks like:

Thanks guys
My immediate thought was 'bud vase' too, but if you keep your Christmas tree decorations year - on - year as I do, you might want to perhaps decorate it with glass paints and string a cord from it, to hang it as a decoration.
Ten years ago I bought a light bulb painted to look like a Christmas pudding at a Christmas crafts fair in Northern Ireland (Narrow Water Castle) .
It shed a lovely relaxing purple glow; when it burned out after a year or two I knotted some festive red cotton on it and it's hung from the tree ever since.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -

They are going to lose ALOT of customers! Worst marketing decision ever!
unfortunately, the animal testing policies of most companies that "we do not test on animals or pay for someone to test on our behalf" allow them to get away with this and legally not tell us outright they are doing it as they aren't the ones doing it, the chinese government is.
i think better of them for being open and honest - they could have just left it and said nothing until we figured it out for ourselves that china tests so the UD products must have been tested over there at some point.
unfortunately, i think if they are really going over to change views from the inside they are being completely misguided. with all the censorship over there, i'd be surprised if their campaigns and views are even published and id definitely expect a pro animal testing campaign in return extolling the "safety" aspect of the testing.
although, i wouldn't be surprised if the main motivator was money. its a big market and a massive customer gain over there will counteract a small loss over here.Oh.
Lush drive me mad with the chemicals they put in their products (especially SLS) but I do admire them for their stance on this:
http://www.lushcountries.com/partnerships/china.html
lush have very skewed policies. they support charities against animal testing and fox hunting that condone the use of violence and criminal damage. i don't agree with animal testing and i don't understand how someone could do it, but breaking the law and causing physical pain and emotional suffering to another human being who is to all intents and purposes just doing a job is not the answer to it.0 -
Evilsquid - I agree that Lush's stance can be problematic. I was just curious to see if they sold in China as it would be an enormous market for any company and they were the first anti-animal testing company that sprang to mind. The Body Shop don't export to China either, for the same reasons. I would have been more swayed by the notion of 'change from within' and championing women by either The Body Shop or Lush rather than Urban Decay. The UD statement was very well (carefully) worded but the idea that they will sell products that may have been tested on animals by the Chinese Gov is pretty difficult to swallow.
This is all just my gut feeling and something that I don't know much about
On a happier note, I opened my windows and can hear a brass band playing 'Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes'! I have no idea why or even where they are :rotfl:
Also, I've painted my nails in Nails Inc teal (an InStyle freebie from a while back). I'm trying to decide whether to put a silver, sparkly top coat on it. It would be more sophisticated without but also but less fun! :rotfl:0 -

Hi All,
A couple of UU from this morning and over the weekend:
No. 7 Beautiful Skin Foaming Cleanser - WBA - loved this as soon as I tried it, its really amazing how it dissolves makeup on contact - very effective and less time consuming than a cream cleanser - will definitely get some more, preferably when I have a voucher, but can't really justify it at the moment as have loads of cream cleanser and makeup remover to get through from the original stash.
TBS Raspberry Ripple bath and shower gel - WBA - love this stuff, it smells soo nice and the scent stays on you after you've showered, its really lovely. Have another in the stash but will definitely get again at some point. Drum roll..... this will now leave me with one shower gel in use and one in reserve, there's also a small bar of soap in use as OH prefers that to shower gel and I think that's pretty much it. :j But I won't get too excited as birthday soon so may be some IN of that nature. I don't think shower gel is something I could justify spending too much on but will be nice deciding what to buy next with a clear concious.
Came home to a nice surprise today - another win from Glamour beauty giveaway - Maybelline Dream Touch Blush in Apricot - was curious about this so have opened it and given it a go but its too sheer/pale for me to use as a blush, could work as a highlighter but ultimately I don't think I'll use it so will either GA or put up for a swap. I've noticed Glamour are giving away TBS products each day this month although I doubt it'll be in the same quantities as the products were last month, mostly 700 a day - still, worth a try.0 -

In regards to the perfume being off, sometimes with older bottles the top notes change and go off, but the heart and base are just the same as they always were underneath. So when you spritz, don't be put off if it smells funny at first. After 15 minutes or so, it'll be back to being the perfume you know and love.
I was wondering of your grandma kept the perfume in its box? I'm a perfume freak and the number one way to keep the perfume exactly the same for years is keep it in it's original box, or at least a dark drawer or cupboard. It's so tempting when the bottles are pretty to pop them on the dressing table but light can really warp a perfume so dark is best.
With my empties, there's a big market for empty vintage perfume bottles online, but that's normally for very old brews. I often fill mine with water and a drop of brightly coloured dye and pop them on the shelves in my bathroom. They look so pretty in the light!0 -

What a lovely idea
Itzybitzy - I think that UD will lose huge numbers of customers over this...I'm still quite shocked that they've chosen to do it as it goes against everything that they've ever stood for0 -
I'm a little late but I'm in this month, thanks for starting the thread Sunshineyday. Willowbee I was sorry to hear about your cat she was clearly much loved. I hope you, and your other cats, are alright.
LadyMorticia congratulations on your pregnancy..I must have missed this bit of good news. Trudij please post pics of your new horse when you get her home.0 -
Could any of you helpful ladies let me know how to multiquote? I'm sure I used to be able to do this. I'm ticking the multiquote bubble on three posts, but then how do I get the quotes to appear in a reply? I'm probably missing something really obvious..I'm very tired.0
