    Recommendations? (I'm sorry it's such a long post :o)

I'm on a mission to improve the condition of my hair! Can anyone recommend something to improve shine and to effectively moisturise my hair? Sadly I can't use really chemically conditioners or masks but I'm less limited by serums/leave in conditioners as I can keep these away from my scalp.

My hair is long (waist length! My Mum trims it as it's difficult for me to get to a hairdresser), naturally very dark reddish brown, quite thick and never greasy. It's not in awful condition but I'd like to improve it :) I let it dry naturally, don't use any stylers (it's naturally straight and won't hold a curl) and I cannot dye it (boring allergies :o). I don't really get split ends, peculiar as that is...

From the natural side of things I've tried coconut oil, jojoba oil and argan oil but with no great luck. I tried the Pure Fiji hair oil from a recent Jolie Box and that didn't do a great deal.

I've tried the Louise Galvin treatment mask (ok but not wonderful) and two Naked treatment masks (useless). I've tried the Macadamia oil leave in conditioner and the deep conditioning mask (so-so). The Sachajuan Hair Repair didn't do much :( One of the Elvive deep conditioners was great but it irritated my scalp, so I can't use that.

I like using Macadamia oil through the ends of my hair. :)

The Aussie Dual Personality Anti-Frizz & Conditioning Milk was quite good (possibly the best thing so far).

The Leonor Greyl pre-shampoo oil is great and may be the answer in the long run.

I'm currently trying Redken Time Reset Corrective Defense (it was in a sale :rotfl:) and whilst I think it has improved the structure of my hair, I don't think it has added much shine. I may need to be more patient with this.

I tried the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shine Shock (?) and a gloss cream ages ago but they didn't really work for me. I've tried a couple of Pantene overnight repair sprays but they didn't make a difference.

I have an HG shampoo and conditioner - L'Occitane Aromacologie, which I was able to buy in a bargain large size in the Jan sales. It's non-irritating and does a very good job, but it isn't fabulous.

I think that is everything so far! :rotfl:

It's possible that I just need to cut a chunk of my hair off as it's so old (:rotfl:) but I'd like to try a couple more things first. I wonder if I'm trying to achieve the impossible as I see people with dyed hair and it looks so lovely and shiny but I just can't go down that route.

    Any ideas very welcome!! :)

    Tresemme Split Remedy Conditioner, 10ml
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, 30ml - WMBA, i like the hot cloth element but i feel i can get the same with any cream cleanser tbh! Nothing special for me x

It's a shame that you didn't try C&P before they changed the formula. It used to be creamier.

I just tried without going through Quidco and it crashed again. :( I can only assume that it's an error with the site. I might try again later.

    *Sighs*

Could be a sign Pickle !! :rotfl:

Have 2 UUS today. As predicted have finished the 50ml pot of Boots Extra Fairtrade cocoa butter body butter. WBA - it's lovely. Sadly though this is the last sweet smelling body butter/lotion that I own. Will replenish it after this month I think.

Also as predicted the V05 Give Me Moisture shampoo is a UU. Have two more in stash so this has been replaced already. Leaves both mine and Emma's hair feeling wonderfully soft.

Have repainted my nails and am now wearing OPI Suzi and the Lifeguard, a pretty frosted pastel pink.

  • I'm really not a hair expert, but have you tried olive oil? Apparently it's an old remedy for damaged hair. Also, I personally love Aveda products, they are botanical and natural and don't have the crap the high street brands do. :)

Ooooh, thanks Tokkiandoliver :) I do remember reading something about mixing a little hot water with olive oil, whizzing it up in a food processor to mix it and then applying it as a pre-wash treatment. I'm all for DIY solutions! :rotfl:

Which Aveda products do you use? I use the L'Occitane ones because they don't have nasties in either :)

VALM - huge congrats to Emma for doing so well with her exam :j

Did you see Prometheus in 2D or 3D? My local cinema only has one showing per day of it in 3D and the 2D showing would be in the massive main screen, so I'm a bit confused as to which to go for...

Scrappie - woohoooooooo!!! to your massive PPI payment! Wonderful news :D

I'm a bit worried about such things too, I decanted some rubbing alcohol into a small spray bottle (from lush toner) and give all my powders, pencils and lipsticks a spray from time to time. It evaporates without damaging them. I also use it as a make-up brush cleaner.
Alioth - what a great idea. Konw what i will be doing later!

DH cannot understand why I think Tom is gorgeous!!!
Rosemary - I'm with you on this one!
Hope the paint dries to a colour that you both like!

I don't know why I have such a difficult time remembering to apply body lotion, it's quite bizarre as I love to exfoliate and take baths, so it's not because I don't pamper myself.
tokkiandoliver -glad that it's no just me that can't remember to used body lotion!! Have set myself a target to use it EVERY day in June - so far so good. My 400ml Decleor BL is now spluttering.
Is is Soap & Glory Sugar Crush you're using next. That is my HG scrub. Love the zesty smell.
Valm - I'm just coming to the end of my Sugar Crush, do they still do it? Can't remember when I last bought it. I do love it tho. With my BL target, I also plan to use many more scrubs this month - am really going to make an effort!

Thanks Willowbee - was soooooooo chuffed! Decided to have the bathroom done. That way I will have something to show for it. (And all my lotions and potions will look lovely on new glass shelves!)

What a fantastic idea :j I'm sure it will be great fun organising all your toiletries :rotfl: :D

I forgot to say that I'm joining you in trying to use BL every day this month as well, even if I just put a bit on my arms. I find it almost impossible to remember to use body scrubs so I might target them as well (I don't have many though, so it's not as urgent as targeting the BL mountain :rotfl:). I'm using up a travel size L'Occitane Pivoine Flora Beauty Milk (nice but WNBA) and a massive 500ml Crabtree & Evelyn Summer Hill BL (loooovely!).

    Wil xx
