I think you have missed the point. OP tried to buy Euros from Sainsburys - something went wrong with the transaction and his money is locked until the authorisation earmarking comes off.
So he has no Euros and no £££ either apparently.

Surely they weren't planning to take every penny to their name though?!

You'd be surprised what some people do. I know someone who gets paid by the end of the month and withdraws the whole amount the day after. Their idea is "I know what I've got and what I can spend as I have it in front of me".

I know a whole family like that, each of the three of them gets paid £1500 - 2000 a month and all withdraw in on payday. EVERYTHING is paid for in cash...

Council tax is saved up in a tin at a rate of one twelfth of a third share each month and paid annually...

    If only the burglars knew!

    anyways back on topic....

If i was the OP i would do my damndest at the branch/with friends to get a couple of hundred quid sorted, get my backside off to the Canaries and whip out the debit card (having told the bank i intend to use it on hols first) once i get there.

£1200 quid hol must include some accommodation and grub. Id rather sit there being miserable for a couple of days than here being miserable for a fortnight.

Sounds a bit understandably kneejerky, toys out of pram...

I'd take a travel kettle and a couple of dozen pot noodles before I cancelled a holiday.

OP has not been on now for 2 days - suggests to me that he 'found' some cash and is on holiday!

For anyone in this situation, I'd just like to remind you that there are two magical brands known as Mastercard and Visa. They let you have a card that you can use practically anywhere and use your own money from your current account or even from a credit account! Best of all it's accepted all over the world and if you lose it then you can cancel it without the worry of losing the money!

The wonders of modern technology, just remember to keep a few hundred euros in case of an emergency and have two cards (with decent foreign fees) and you're all set.
