I think I am destined not to get a house. The Central Bank in Ireland have announced plans to make people have a 20% deposit. Given that prices have gone up 25% in the last year in the area I want to buy I don't know how they think it is remotely possible :(

20%??? That's ridiculous! How do they ever expect people to save so much and pay rent etc at the same time?

I honestly don't know. It would take us forever to save another 10% as well as pay 980euro rent per month, not to mention having no life while doing it.

So frustrating. It's meant to be to slow house prices down but it really will be excluding a lot of people

    Happy New Year all!

One of my resolutions is to post on here more often to try and stop spending money we don't have!

Can't believe we are in 2015. I have been in debt for 13 years now. No more. This time I mean business.

So the plan is to pay off the BOI credit card, while saving for for a deposit on the house. We are doing well with the deposit, but not so well with the credit card. When the BOI credit card has been paid off then we can apply for a mortgage and start living life again!

We will still have a balance on the Virgin card but this is 0% until April 2016 so I will concentrate on that after we get a house.

So my aim is to have the cc paid off at the end of the June pay cheque, so we have a hard 6 months ahead of us. I'm not even sure if it is actually doable but I'll give it a good bash.

So no more spending on clothes and other bits that we don't need. All of us have lots of clothes, particularly the children.

I just need to keep thinking of the end reward. A house! Then our life begins.......

Myself and OH have managed to compromise on location too so we are no longer looking for a big mortgage. I am hopeful that we could have it paid off in just under 10 years.

  • The universe also seems to want to help me this year. OH has been offered overtime at work. This rarely happens so I told him to grab it and I'd hold the fort at home for the next few weeks. Not sure how much he will make but everything will be going off that BOI credit card. That needs to be as low as possible or gone before we make a mortgage application. Feeling quite positive today.

Thanks Nonnie and Abba for the encouragement.

Sold a child's dress on a local selling site so paid that off the credit card. I have surplus money going into February so will definitely be going under 5k on the credit card. The big achievement will be trying to get it under 4k before Feb paydate but I'll try my utmost. If I keep thinking of that house I will spur myself on.

One big personal achievement for me was that we had no foreign holidays in 2014 or 2013. We had a few trips to the UK but nowhere beyond that. That's huge for us. Doesn't look like we will be going anywhere abroad in 2015 but as soon as we have a house I'll be booking a family holiday for us :)

Will be getting under 12k at the end of the month too. Getting under 10k will be a huge achievement for me.

Good to see you back posting on here! Nice to see that you're still on the wagon too, you're doing brilliantly. Just think of all that spare money you'll have once this debt is gone. :)
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!
