I'm not judging either (and I am far from perfect) but ultimately we are all responsible for our own actions, good or bad, so I suppose many are asking why, because you kind of know that you've done wrong, but want validation that you haven't. And we can't give that to the OP. I hope that makes sense.
I agree - all too often people come expecting to be told that they neither did anything wrong nor silly; and if the first position doesn't hold true, they want to be told that it isn't very important or doesn't matter. Any other view or query is simply being "unsupportive", "unsympathetic" or "nasty". Unfortunately, no amount of sympathy and agreeing with them is going to have any influence at all on what the employer thinks. Which is far more likely to be unsympathetic!0 -

True. However, I do wish the OP all the best, and I'm sure you've learnt a lesson. Take care.Me transmitte sursum, caledoni0 -

I agree. It isn't about the individual poster (unless they have done something so blatently stupid that it's impossible not to point it out - witing "my employers are a bunch of T*****'s may be true, but qualifies as really stupid when you also friended your three immediate managers!)) and I know that ILW didn't mean (or say) it that way. I just wish that people would read the horror stories before they say something and not have to learn the lesson.
By the way DKLS - it is a sticky somewhere else: http://www.redundancyforum.co.uk/frequently-asked-questions/5391-facebook-internet-use-mobile-phones-disciplinary-processes/0 -
Why do people switch their brains off when they log on to Facebook.
I truly wish someone could explain it to me.
I cant explain it either and its baffled me as well.
We've not had a social network policy from work but its just common sense you dont say anything bad about your employer a via social networks.
OP you need to just beg, grovel, do anything to keep your job.0 -

It must be great to be so morally upstanding and the perfect person at home, at work and generally.
You are having a laugh,
Of course no one is perfect makes no mistakes, but things are put in place throughout your life to help stop you making stupid mistakes and when you ignore them expect the consiquences.
Mum says don't put your hand in fire,
H&S says don't climb ladders without someone at the bottom
Road safety says don't drive through red lights
Employer says DON'T post anything on facebook
Now this persons employer has a history of sacking people for facebook posts so WHY DO IT.
This is not the first time the OP has posted something about their employer on a social network site.0 -
OP can I confirm other posters, that you are in a union and should be speaking to your union. They have direct access to legal help and will give you an honest answer on whether you are likely to get the sack or not. They will also tell you what to do and how to prepare for your disciplinary and the appeal stage. You should have no need to seek legal advice elsewhere.
Also, your previous posts here have made it clear what company you work for and where you are based.Saving money right, left and centre0 -
a) how do you know anyone here is actually a lawyer just because they say there are?
b) if they were why would they counsel you in PM when they could charge you?
c) it's a forum, we give public advice so all can benefit
re: FB comments - it depends on your company policy. if it is listed as gross misconduct, you are pretty much stuffed. Advice on "how to get out with a reference" will serve you better than legal advice.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Don't have a Facebook account. I seem to be the only person who doesn't have or want one. You only have to look here for the problems it causes.0

You aren't. Neither do I and I don't want one. I find that talking to my friends - real friends - by phone or e-mail if I can't see them in person does quite well, thank you. But then if I think my employer is an idiot, I discuss it with the cat, who hasn't ever told anyone else.0 -
Thanks Marybelle and Mechanic, although I have a FB account I never use it (just got one cos mates persuaded me). Good idea about talking to the cat!
OP You need to talk to union ASAP, you need to present your best case when dealing with your employer. Then I would suggest you stop using FB so that you can show your employer that you have changed your behaviour, it may help (but I personally wouldn't put money on it)Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0
