    Where do you live?

It's a long shot but if you live in Leeds pm me.

You need to get a copy of the social network policy

If breached - grovel grovel grovel and promise never to do again

If not breached - then argue to the hilt and ask for proof of Gross misconduct.

I can't say without saying what you signed - but for me that is instant dismissal!

BTW - if other colleages have said similar then get proof via FB NOW!

Screen dump their comments - it may help if you can show that other employees are being allowed leniancy, BUT be warned this may also mean friends and colleagues are disciplined. How far do you self protect? Sorry but unless a close friend I'd do it in a heartbeat!

Not saying that at all - Depends on YOUR policy. The company I work for has STRICT guidelines and I know if I breached - bye bye job. If your policy merely states they'd advise against it - they would have no Gross Misconduct case. In MY policy it is gross misconduct and if proved there is no defence.

So you really need to review the policy you signed - all companies will be worded differently. Sanctions/Warnings/Disciplinaires depend on what you signed not our opinions on forum as we can't see YOUR contract.

I would recommend that you acknowledge that you have been silly & immature & apologise to both the company and any individuals who may have been affected.

When deciding a penalty, the company should also consider you as an employee & take into account length of service, previous conduct, as well as the seriousness & impact of the comments made.

There would be no point in PM'ing me - i'm not a "legal" type just someone who's worldly wise enough to understand that facebook + work = trouble!

    ILW

I asked for advice not to be told off like a school kid I understand ive done wrong dont rub it in if u have got any advice do comment my family and house are on the line if u dont mind

ILW makes a perfectly valid comment, and perhaps you should have thought about your family and your house before deliberately breaching a policy which you knew you had signed your agreement to adhere to. So as others have said, grovelling seems like an appropriate strategy, and attacking someone on here for making a perfectly valid observation which was not directed at you and does not in way constitute "lecturing you like a school kid" is hardly a mature response.

It is a fact that there are so many posts here and elsewhere about social networking comments leading to disciplinary action at work that it is a wonder that anyone couldn't be aware of the risks they take, whether or not the have had fair warning in that their employer has a social networking policy that they are completely aware of.
