Ask her? If she doesn't know why, I'd be very concerned!!!!!0

I;m sure there is a story here my husband is not being told. She was taking meths when she first got pregnant she claimed she went into rehab and came off when she was 3 months pregnant, she didn't know she was pregnant at time, you can;t believe a word she says to be honest, I bet this is the reason why its 5 days0

It's likely. I actually thought when you posted that it may be drugs, but didn't want to insult you or cause any upset.
Even 'giving up' 3 months in can still effect baby. It's likely social services will also have some involvement if there is effects or mum has a history of drug use.0 -
I had to stay in 5 days after having my baby purely due to my blood pressure being too high. Could be as simple as tthatBaby Ice arrived 17th April 2011. Tired.com! :j0

baby will require monitoring in that case. you will find out in due course if social services are involved, as you may be part of their safeguarding plans.
does she have any other children?0 -
Maybe they don't want to release her right before a big bank holiday weekend, so are delaying it until the rest of the support services that might be needed are back in place and available.0

I was told I had to stay in for 5 days when my son was born-I thought it only applied to him and popped out for milk the second day home and got roundly scolded by the midwife -so it may not be as unusual as you think........although I don't suppose that'll stop you thinking the worst of your husband's daughter by the sound of it so please don't let me spoil your fun .I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I have seen this happen before - a lady was going back to a hostel and social services were being pretty useless, so she stayed in until everything was sorted.
Given the OP's horrible attitude at a time when she should be providing support, sounds like it is for the best.0 -
Don't know anything about drugs sorry, but could be something like the baby needing antibiotics as a precaution if she was in labour for a long time for example.
Blood transfusion if she lost a lot of blood.
Concerns with leg swelling, needing a scan to rule out DVT.
Those are a couple of things I can think of.0 -
