  • This was my first try at DTD.

I was looking at the electrical isles and noticed that some panasonic cordless phones which were half price at £49.50 from £99. the date on the yellow sticker had run out last week so i took it to the self checkout and it come up at £99. I thought my luck was in, I told the attendant that it was half price and she went and fetched the yellow sticker and said it had ran out but she would still warrant the half price, I mentioned the DTD and she said no it doesnt apply, so I said I have many stories where they have received DTD and she said that if I had bought the item then I would have received the DTD. Did I make a school boy error not buying the item or should I have still received the offer? In the end I didnt buy the phones as I was annoyed.

But I notice another set of phones that ran out the same daym should I go and buy them to morrow then take them back to CS?

You have to actually buy them first and then go back and say you have been overcharged and that you expected to pay the lower price. Then you shoud get dtd back.
  • To get DTD you pay for the item, ignore the overcharge at the till, then exit the store (very important, many CSAs try the excuse that you haven't even left the store!). You then go to Customer Services and explain that you thought the price was X, you then GO WITH the assistant to check the price (otherwise the SEL has a habit of disappearing!) to show them where you found it, you then collect your DTD with a happy surprised look on your face. If they just try to let you have it at the price on the label point out the board that should be behind them explaining DTD.

I've never made a point of leaving the store, nor have I heard of this cs wile. In fact, I always sit and check my receipt before leaving. I announce it's my habit to do so at the start of cs rtn visit, look perplexed and fail to understand how overcharge has happened.
It's laid in tablets of stone here shaunyg24, but worth repeating: ALWAYS accompany cs, regardless of anything they say or insist. Just follow - 'It may have been me' you can say.
    Good luck.

Another method you can employ is to go back to where the item is stocked, looking puzzlingly at your receipt.
Then try to grab a passing member of staff and ask them to look at the ‘error’.
In my experience on most occasions they will then remove the label from the shelf and take you to CS desk to explain/confirm the error to the CS staff.
Even if they don’t come back with you, at least you will have a confirmed sight of the error by a Tesco employee. You can refer to that fact in your conversation with the CS desk staff.

£8/kg on offer at £6/kg SEL (as you would expect in the current 'anti-beef' climate) but packs still at s-c-u-n-t-h-o-r-p-e marked at full price, as I expected went through full price so DTD meant an effective 50% refund so £3/kg for me, may still be available in your store if a national 'error' possibly worth a look.

Wish I'd gone back and cleared the shelf now for the freezer before I went to CS

  • Got the BT Freelance XT 3500 house phones today, SEL OOD £54 reduced from £129, DTD was taken, got paid £20 in cash to take the phone away from the store, the DTD was not offered just the £75 saving but after I mentioned the DTD there was no questions and was given it straight away. the CS staff were amazed that I received more than phone cost itself.
