I have been in tears watching it. I cannot imagine what the families are going through.0

I don't know how I would cope as a parent. My head would be telling me to let my child go but my heart would be screaming to keep trying everything to save her.
I think this sums it up exactly. I have such huge respect for any parent who has had a seriously ill child. The strength it must take to just keep going must be immense. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. I cant watch those sorts of programmes it brings back too many painful memories. I'll never forget the crying, the wailing, it goes through you it really does.... and those are the lucky ones. The children/babies who are seriously ill are usually in a coma induced state or intubated.
I remember wishing it was the little girl in the next bed to my daughter who had died and not mine because this little girl had put up for adoption and mine had a Mummy that would have given anything to have saved her...... How awful of me.

I'm sorry Judi. I hope this thread hasn't upset you.
You thought normal and understandable thoughts. I think many if not all of us would have felt the same if it was our child. xHerman - MP for all!

It reduces me to tears.
I worked with kids and still volunteer to help with kids who have disabilities, some life threatening. A few kids I have worked with passed away and it was heartbreaking for me so I can't even begin to imagine how hard it was for their parents and family. Even now when I hear certain songs that were played at funerals or were favourites of some of the children I have to turn the radio down or skip the song.
Rest in peace all the kids up in heaven and my thoughts are with the families who have been left with the heartache

I found tonights episode interesting. The doctors reflecting that some children will become more and more reliant on medical technology and not be able to live without it.
Then there is the ultimate awful outcome that the treatment given to cure one condition inadvertently causes another. The cards that are dealt to some people just seem so totally unfair. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. I have no idea how people work in children's hospices, they must be made from a special mould.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Again, I agree with you.

Actually, for once I disagree with you. This nurse worked with this little girl so had a good knowledge of her. I think she had a right to express her opinion. It is good to know that although this nurse didn't think the little girl had a great quality of life, she still cared for her like for any other patient.
I think it is good to have all kind of opinions, whether we like them or not, as it makes the content of such a program more balanced. As difficult as it is, it can't all be about saving the children at all costs.
This episode started an animated discussion here between my dd and I on whether a person who carries a bad gene, and has a 50/50 percent of passing it on to their child, should ever consider having a child.LBM: August 2006 £12,568.49 - DFD 22nd March 2012
