Was you phone brand new when it was lost? I suspect it was used so a refurbished unit is a fair replacement. Thats the way most insurance works.

it was a brand new galaxy s3 and an ipone 3gs 32gb which was 2 years old!
    HOW MUCH ?

Given the S3 has only been out for a few weeks - any refurbished handsets cant be more than a few weeks old and hence are likely to have been opened and then returned (and hence still effectively new) rather than broken and fixed.

The 3GS is different but given that a refurbished unit will normally come with a guarantee it shouldn't be a problem. If you dont like the thought of a refurbished unit then you could always sell it and buy something else.

I have claimed for the iphone on my home insurance, they rang today and said they are out of stock so they are offering me £599 the equivalant cost for an iphone 4.

The galaxy will just be replaced by the bank insurance!

Dont forget that if you claim on your house insurance that they will presumably take off your excess and that your premiums may go up as a result. I'm surprised they are offering the iphone 4 cost because they are out of stock - I thought if anything they would offer the 3GS rate but I guess you wont be complaining!

The excess covers my bag, purse and cash. I know my premiums will go up, I also have to claim for my glasses as well! It's a shame you don't get a no claims bonas as I have had insurance for 17 years and never made a claim!
