Thanks! Good call - haven't seen this posted before.
Just in time as well, as I just finished listening to Pirsig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" today :T
I think you're a bit more highbrow than me Zag. Today I finished my talking book: Tony Hawks's Round Ireland with a Fridge. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I am going to try and get with the audio book thing.
I do tend to feel a bit daunted by the way free books are presented in a list. Tbh, i also find it hard but not as hard to sort through amazon.
I am scared people like me are going to get left out in the cold, unable to filter the information in a way its presented to us. One day ludditism will be deemed non pc and we will be called something like non it enabled. But by then our access to culture will have been so limited we will avtually have shrivelled brains incapable of an intellectual or deeper emotional reaction to art and the elevated media.
I have never down loade a tune, (i have read online books and found them tweminal but handy in a particular situation). I have given up with iplayer, its too hard now. Dh downloaded the kindle book i bought. I have read that a few times now, but .......
I don't love it.0 -
lir, if you would like an audiobook but don't want the hassle of downloading, why not try one on CD (or if you are a real luddite cassette) from your local library? Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Car is back on the road with a nice new MOT....it will be the last year we have her as we think it will be a bridge too far next year.
Going to have to talk to the school again...they are still messing up/not adhering to statements etc, not just with youngest but with all blooming three of them!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I don't think you should need to justify the party activity as effeminate or not. Stuff them, I say. You shouldn't be a prisoner to narrow minded jealous types.
No, you're right of course. It shouldn't matter what sort of party it is. But since he happens to have chosen laser tag this year, I thought it was part of the detail of the story and put it in.Poor DS. Sorry that he is getting bother. It did make me smile though... In a few years those silly boys will be so jealous of another boy hanging out with two girls!
Oh, the silly boys have girlfriends too. One of them has met a girl, gone out with her, dumped her, and started going out with another girl, all within the 3 weeks since they all started at the school. DS thinks this is stupid, but is very unlikely to have said so within earshot of the people concerned.I am impressed that even at that age he is concerned about how the young ladies' virtue is perceived. However may be in this age of equality you should gently suggest to him that it is probably up to the said young ladies themselves to decide whether they would rather come to the party and virtue (perceptions of) be d*mned.
Afraid it's not the girls' reputations he's worried about. He just wants the annoying boys to leave him alone. They probably will soon, too. We know these boys - they were with DS at primary school - so we know they aren't malicious, just immature. The malicious ones that really did plague him at his primary school are now out of his life, having gone to different secondary schools.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
I don't want to divulge too much, but currently me and my sister here in UK are involved in a 'tug of war' between my mum and her partner.
She is going through terminal cancer, which is hard enough, but he is trying to be a complete control freak. How selfish does a person have to be to put their own wants over someone who just wants to spend quality time with their family in the remaining months?
Oh, on a more positive note, aren't the McMillan nurses and the other support people brilliant. They deserve all the support they can get.
So sorry to hear. Hope you work something out soon.Going to have to talk to the school again...they are still messing up/not adhering to statements etc, not just with youngest but with all blooming three of them!
That's staggering. Words fail me. Are we allowed to ask what they are messing up now?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Well, it is a range of stuff.....youngest not having TA's in 95% of his lessons when he should be having 20 hours a week. New teachers not knowing youngest has ASD and putting extra pressures on him to give a speech in front of the whole classroom when it quite clearly states in his statement and his ILP that he has major difficulties with communication, especially in a class setting, so any activity like that is supposed to be handled sensitivly aka, not to force him into it but possibly work towards him giving the speech directly to the teacher on a one to one basis...something he can't do right now as it is a completely new teacher and is not yet on the trusted list.
For middle son, not giving me the list of exams although that has been prearranged, teachers not knowing about his issues with his short term memory and giving verbal instructions which he has no hope of remembering and not allowing him time to write them down so he has a chance to remember. He also has no TA help again contrary to his statement.
For eldest, threatening him with detention if he is late for lesson, no exceptions so whilst having a bad dislocation while cross siting late last week, he was shouted at and given a detention...he is not allowed to leave early from one lesson to allow more time to get over to the other site. Teachers also not knowing about his EDS, GERD, POTS or heart murmur and then having a go when he does have a problem because he is not taking part as he should do (although I think the drama teacher finally understood this bit when both hips came out at the same time and he collapsed to the floor...talk about panic stations!)
There are lots of other bits and pieces but the major problem appears to be a lack of communication of their needs and the inability of the staff (really the new ones), to understand those needs even when told!We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
