I've been offered a trip to Oz. OH has to go there on business and suggested he extends his trip and I come with. I really, really don't like long flights and the thought of a 22 hour flight with a change is enough to put me off. Everyone is saying that it is stupid to say no. His work would pay most of the accommodation costs and his flight and his expenses, so we would "only" have to pay for my flight and some expenses.
This isn't the chance of a lifetime as OH goes once a year, but it is an opportunity. There are currently no big reasons to say no like there were last year but I'm not jumping with joy.
I would but I love any excuse for a holiday. If you don't feel like you would enjoy the time, then don't go. It's something for you to have fun, not dread it.
Will you enjoy it more once you're done with the flights? How long would you go for? It would have to be at least 2 weeks, can he extend it for that long?0 -
I only know 105 of them, I understand many more have been added since I memorised them at 13.
The rain and wind is so bad down here today..got to think of things to entertain my two year old now, as park is a no-go today.0 -
Just had a phone call from one of the agency applications I put in. She's putting me through for consideration by their client. Sounds a bit too much "sales-based" to me.... huge uncapped bonuses in a technical sales field; job presents itself more as a paper-based go-for role .... so we'll see.
I think that's:
7 applied for
1 already gone
1 interview invite/attended
1 interested phone call
4 nothing heard.0 -

Well, at least this september actually feels like autumn. I am staying as upbeat as i can about it having been soaked to the skin twice today.
I washed my hair last night, then went out this morning with no hat on. Makes last night a complete waste of time, lol.
Now we are struggling to choose next car. Big dog is a big factor in our car choice, she and dog dog have to have separate places to sit. I think our car isn't man enough, so we might be back to a defender. I think a rangerover would be nice and warm and roomy....but also thirstier. Same with a disco.
I covent the volvo four by four (excellent mpg) but guess like our mini landrover, its not man enough for much of our needs.0 -

what you definitely need is a mini cooper S JCW with unbelievably low mileage, it is absolutely the perfect vehicle for your needs. you could even use it to transport big dog*. out of pure coincidence i can get you one at a very reasonable** price.
* = trailer required
** = my definition, not yours.0 -
That's is a fantastic looking pool. Love the design
It's a lovely place to swim, especially on a sunny day when you can feel the sun on your back without having to put sunscreen on.But a real pain for backstroke swimmers...
Aussie goggles are quite heavily tinted as a rule so it's not so bad. I tend to end up doing backstroke when I have a goggle failure so it messes me up.
This was my old pool when I was teaching at a Uni:0 -
I can see you were really slumming it back in those days!
To be fair I had to share it!
They also had a 25m (30m?) indoor pool for cold days. I used to use the outdoor pool even in the middle of winter though; it's lovely.
My favourite is the ocean pools they have here that are built into the ocean like this:
This is the one of the 4 by my mate's place:
It's better than being eaten by sharks, swimming in an ocean pool.0 -
Pools used to be 33.33 yards, or 36.66 yards long. But then people started swimming in metres and pools became 25m.
You used to talk in terms of getting your "14 yards swimming certificate", which meant you could swim the width of the pool .....
When it comes to 50m pools, there are two types: Olympic sized and non-Olympic. Both are 50m long, but whether they are Olympic or not depends on other factors, such as the number of lanes. Olympic sized is 50m long, 25m wide - 10 lanes. Other criteria include the lighting, depth, water temperature and overall volume.
The UK has only 8 that meet this criteria, but about another dozen 50m pools of lesser width etc.0
