    I've been Money Tipped!
I rarely buy meat .... I do pick up the Xmas meat because nobody else in our family cared if there was any or not .... but now there's no family so no Xmas to even buy that turkey crown for.

As for meat the rest of the year, I might buy 3 packets of sausages/year and about 2Kg of mince per year.... beyond that meat is usually only found in one of the rare chicken indian takeaways I buy (I usually have a veggie meal so as to avoid fatty/iffy meat), or a pizza topping of chilli beef or chilli chicken a max of 3-4x a year, or in a chicken/mushroom pie (with chips) about 3x a year, or in a microwaveable meal for one about 3-4x a year.

I wonder how much my meat costs in ciggies? :D

We have been meat heavy for a few weeks as i am trying to run down the freezer a bit. Been trying to do it all year"..........

But that's choice.... I said "a basic roast....."

S0d ethics if paying £11 would mean you only get one every 2 months :)
We are a family of three and so that is OK for us. I made stock from the chicken carcass and that is now in veg soup with lentils and barley. The legs are still in the fridge and will be a sandwich lunch tomorrow.

I spend £10 tops on the Xmas meat..... for 4-5 people, with lashings of leftovers to be eaten cold over the next few days.

We eat a lot of meat, but it is in our budget and we could cut back on groceries if necessary.

You're one of those posh sorts aren't you :)
And don't say "No, we're not posh" ..... because ... you are really :)

Not one bit posh. You may need to meet me to be convinced. DD also says I am a supermarket snob, however she now gets it that mostly it is about shopping close to home.

    No worries!

They say you're more likely to get most of your intellect from your mum and most of your temperament from your dad.

Hope that's good news for most NPs. :D

    Oh dear.

Some years ago DD and her then long term bf were opposites - he dyslexic Oxbridge maths, she a dyspraxic languages student. We feared for them lasting and producing offspring.

That said, it was something me and ex husband did discuss and our way of thinking was that it was better for them to support themselves by working whilst studying rather than having it provided for them....although we did realise that if they were doing something like medicine, then this would have been impossible.

What age did your ex think that htey should start supporting themselves? 7? (Sorry, not NP comment.)
I know this view may seem a little off kilter to other parents but we were workaholics (the pair of us) who strived to better ourselves, even if it meant going without socially and we wanted that ethos to be passed onto the children.

We had that ethos at one point, we've moved to a "work better not harder" and become concerned about the right life-balance as we've got older.

I'm busy enough preparing and my DD is just moving about 15 miles into central London.:D

DS is going on holiday this week! Reckons he can get everything sorted in 3 days when he gets back.

We've never given pocket money and we could never afford to. If the kids ever go out to anything where they need money, we give them it and ask for any change left over.

They all know money's tight and that we (their mum and dad) never go out but always pay if they go out.

It's never been abused. We've not made them get a job but wouldn't get in the way if they did. We will send £50 per week to DD at uni, (assuming our budget allows it).

You'll need to get used to the idea that "posh according to PN's definition" is a wide category that includes lots of things that you may not consider posh yourself. That's worked for me. ;)

Interesting how different families view work. In my family (I mean when I was growing up) the emphasis was on working hard at school to learn for learning's sake, and excellence for its sake too, with the goal being to end up in a career that was interesting and worthwhile and a good fit to your personal gifts and inclinations. Bettering yourself as such didn't really come into it.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
