The local news were focussing on one about 12 miles from here - and they said of the beacon that when they did this for the Silver Jubilee it was set fire to the night before the official lighting, so they'd had to build a new one from scratch on the day ... and it hadn't happened this time (obviously had a bunch of fat farmers with pitchforks round it for the past fortnight).

There were some good bits among the not so good though missk. Tom Jones was a legend, Shirley Bassey was good and really enjoyed Madness with the palace backdrop.

I can't keep up with the number of posts on here. We've already used over 5% of our allowance and we've only been here a few days. Scary.

Since a couple of years back there seems to be a sudden increase in the number of fireworks nights... I think it started with "people having weddings" and then grew to "people having their stag/hen nights" and then grew to "anybody down here for the weekend, who wanted to get pished and let off fireworks". The other one is those bl00dy dangerous Chinese lanterns - loads of those set off from the beaches.

In terms of the song its catchy, but it does sound even more like David Guetta's When Love Take's Over than Gaitana's You Can Be My Guest (which also sounds like Guetta).

What Mr Spirit does for a living means he gets to see a fair number of firework displays and is quite professional at ooohing and aaahing. As he said of tonight, it will have done GB tourism no harm at all.

I think we posted tons over the lousy wet weekend. It'll soon slow down as the weather improves and we get out and do things!:D

I thought the fireworks were stunning. The pictures of the crowds down The Mall were a great sight too.

Either there were problems with the sound for the TV or there was a lot of poor singing. It may be curmudgeonly, but if they're performing at an event like this then it should be better, there are other ways to mark events like this without the now obligatory pop concert.

I really enjoyed the fireworks too. I was a bit disappointed when - just as they were getting to the big finale - the beeb started running credits across the top and showing them from an odd angle. Surely they could have waited a further 60 seconds. I don't think the BBC has covered itself in glory over the past couple of days.

The shots that looked like they were from a helicopter hovering a mile or so away? I could see what they were trying to do but it didn't seem to work to me.

I thought that the pageant coverage was awful. Clearly not ideal conditions weather wide, but why did they keeping going to their 'celeb' 'reporters'? I wanted to hear about more of the boats and crews, not which cake Tess Daly wanted to nab from the WI!

They didn't do it justice at all in my opinion.
