Neither of mine went straight from school to uni.
Both felt that they had practical experience to gain before starting theoretical studies, while the discipline of a year's regular employment helped them to view their courses in a very positive light. The money came in handy too.0 -
Congratulations to the DD and DSs of silvercar, Jonny and Sue, all of whom have done far better than I did at 18.
Mind you, that doesn't say much!:rotfl:....But you know what I mean.0 -
Any one else here use anything like myfitnesspall or calorie counter? After a few months of not giving a damn i have to get things unde ontrol again. I am horrified to note how much sugar has crept in ( i have started eating more bananas for potasium because thats meant to be an issue with this head business, and also because have not been well bouth those cheat breakfast biscuits). So while my calorie intake is low over all my sugars within that are too high.
There is a thread about the intermittant fSting which was recently discussed on horizon and which is not so different in idea (thoguh more successful) than my attempes to calorie hoard, but its all very confusing and contradictory what i am reading elsewhere about it, and the thread is not terribly illuminating.
Now i feel less like i am sloshing around i have felt like cooking again.
Its quite telling that apart from what we guess is fluid weight i have not lost anything mut my parent has lost three and a half kilos since movig in on something between what I eat and what dh eats....so its not my cooking and meal planning totally at fault, though its not perfect.0 -
I'm rubbish at diets really... only solution is to not be near food. If I own food, I have to eat it .... all.0

erm...we need some bottle racks and the one i like is £5000

Congrats from me too to all the A level ds's and dd's.
Silvercar...the second choice one may be fine in the long run but I do sympathise with being the odd mark off a top grade. Son had it with his degree.
However he learnt that had he worked harder throughout the 1st year and half he could have removed that margin himself. It was a good lesson learnt for him as he can coast sometimes. He didn't make the same mistake during the post grad law though and it paid off with a good TC offer.
...and I have good news today from him too. He got a Paralegal contract (12 mo) with a US law firm LIr/FIR may know. Starts with 'colour of milk' + ' receptacle to put clothes in when travelling''. Was hard to get and I know he was miserable recently as, in the absence of a 'proper job', he has to work for us instead
we don't permit sofa surfing apart from a week post exams + also stopped his allowance so he was totally skint (how mean of us).
He considered going and getting JSA until he got a job but couldn't face going down there plus we always have stacks to do and were happy to put him on the payroll until he found something.........we have stacks of menial tasks that never get done as we have no time. He doesn't really like working with us though but get's on with all the mundane jobs in good spirit.
Whilst he job-hunted he has sorted out our TM registration in various countries, painted the toilets at the studio (a big job as it's all cubicles and we have mens and laydees), spent 2 days barcodeing (really zzzzz) and sorted out the stock room.0 -
Fc, thats great! We don't, know anyone there in london so would be interested to know how he finds it when he is settled in!
Glad he has been busy for you.0 -

I know he is a bit intimidated by the place as it's very... um very ... top end in a USA kind of way IYKWIM? He got to last 2 after tests and so on + the final choice was made by the person he will assist (doing research etc). It's in M+A dept.
Once the wages start to flow he is moving out with his mate to rent a place and I know he can't wait. His primary reason is being able to take a girl home after a date (now he's newly single) but he said he will miss the free home services. He was very tactful
The house extension/building work starts in 2 weeks time so the less of us here the better as we will be moving around bedrooms etc.
You sound like you are feeling better? BTW I wouldn't recomend the fasting thing but as high a nutrient diet as you can realistically manage instead may help a bit.0
